With the present condition of Naga City, the demand for quality healthcare will continue to increase so the

government must hasten and double their efforts to augment public hospitals. Thus, “HAELEN: Proposed New
Naga City Hospital” was conceptualized. The term “Healen” means harmony of mind, body, and spirit. Hence, the
proposed hospital is the embodiment of an optimal environment that targets the complete well-being of an
individual.
The proposal is a Level 2 hospital with 100 beds to accommodate more patients and more complex cases. It has
four departments, namely Medicine, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Surgery. The project is located in
Barangay Balatas, Naga City to cater the upland barangays. It targets to uplift the quality of healthcare in the city
and bring the services closer to the marginalized neighbouring municipalities will greatly benefit from this project.
Moreover, the project aims to bridge the gap and break the stigma associated with public hospitals so a new
approach in healthcare design will be undertaken. HAELEN: Proposed New Naga City Hospital shall serve as an
epitome of an ideal hospital wherein the top priority is the welfare of the patients and staff instead of profit. It aims
to revolutionize the traditional hospital design.
Contrary to the usual, this proposed city hospital will be more deinstitutionalized to make the institution more
welcoming and ward. To achieve this, evidence-based design and salutogenic principles will be employed.
Salutogenic architecture derives inspiration from salutogenesis or the study of cause of health rather than of
disease. This will be evident in the design through the incorporation of nature, maximum of daylight, and the
promotion of a healthy lifestyle. A new paradigm ward in design will be introduced as well to help speed up the
recovery process of the patients.
This project proves that access to health services should not be a luxury but a basic commodity. This is one step
closer to realizing our dream of universal healthcare for all.
