Scope of Works:
Technical pecifications:
Netting System:
Heavy duty, high density knotted polyethylene net with 28mm (1 1/8th”) x 28mm (1 1/8th”)
mesh, materials shall be made from polyethylene that has been stabilized against ultra violet
light. A flame retardant (fire-retarded) netis required, The product should be highly resistant to
most chemicals netting should be pre-stretched under 9 tons of tension and is then ‘heat set’.
Heat setting involves stretching the net and then injecting steam over it for an extended period
of time to stretch the twine and tension all the knots to the point where they will retain their
shape throughout the life of the product.
Standard nylon bird and pigeon netting is 0.071” (1.8034mm) thick comprising of 6 strands that
are 0.012” (0.3048mm) thick. The breaking strength of each strand of nylon is 23.6 kg (52lbs).
The bursting strength is 22kg (44lbs). The product is highly resistant to most chemicals at
standard temperatures and the high temperature range for the product is 100-115 degrees C
(210-239 degrees F).
Once the wire has been installed and tensioned the netting is then attached to the wire by
retaining clips called ‘hog rings’. The netting is pulled tight and square prior to the final retaining
clips being installed. The netting is then checked to ensure that there are no gaps large enough
for the birds to enter the netted area and this completes the installation.
Access Doors: To face of system include for 2no personnel ‘gates’ with minimum 3.0m of
installed netting access zips, positioned to allow clear access to existing palisade gates accessing
transformer compounds.
If access is required to areas behind the net Contractor can use one of the following types of
access device that can be fitted to a net as per TRANSCO Engineer selection:
The first is a stainless steel clip that can be removed and replaced as and when access is
required and which is should match the gauge of net being installed, the clip is installed in the
precise area of the net where access is required and then the net is cut in the middle of the span
of the clip.
The second option is a bird net zip made of non-corrosive materials. A bird net zip is no different
from a conventional zip and is either hog ringed or sewn in place. Zips are typically available in 2
sizes to match the gauge of net being used (28mm), the net is first installed and then the zip is
attached in the desired area. Once the zip has been installed the mesh behind the zip is cut
creating the access hole.
Steel Robe:
using the wire rope of hotdip galvanized steel PVC coated wire robe, wire diameter shall be as
per manufacturer design and recommendations (Diameter should not less than 8 mm)
Note
Spacing between ropes shall not be more than 2 ms / as per manufacturer recommendition to
prevent sagging of netting system above the live equipments
Fixation Bolts:
Eye Bolts shall be used for concrete structure and steel beams fixation, all bolts shall be M10 x
100mm Stainless Marine Grade 316 A4, Complete with nuts and washers
Thread length: 97mm
Bolt length from under shoulder: 100mm
Bolt diameter: 10mm
Eye diameter: 16mm
Shoulder diameter: 28mm
Washer outside diameter: 28mm
Materials for anti roosting birds spike shall be UV-stabilised polycarbonate base (moulded in
polycarbonate) using a polycarbonate base with stainless steel pins.
The following anti roosting birds spike could be used as per the site condition:
Steel Chanells:
Supply and installation high grade steel hot dip galvanaized C channel for transformers area to
raise the net level above the electrical equipments, C channels shall be fixed in the fire walls by
3 nos stainless steel 16 mm anchore bolts for each channel.
Size of channel = 152 x 89 x24 with total length = 1.5 M / each channel
Total nos = 14 nos
Important Notes:
The scope of works shall includedesign, supply and installation of complete netting
system to provide continuous integral protection to prevent pigeons from roosting in
the transformer enclosures, air conditioning plants roofs and from seeking shade during
the day under raised conduits and trunking materials, the system must be durable and
lightweight, non-flammable and non-conductive and will create a safer working
environment at the sub stations.
Quantites and attached as Built Drawings is for tendering pourpose and actual quantities
shall measured from the site during the site visit, Quantites is for the existing areas to be
covered, over lap and extended of net over the parapets and walls and actual areas of
netting shall be taken into consideration during cost calculation
Gauranttee period shall be 1 years for all the system from the date of PAC and 10 years
for all materials, any defects will apear in the materials shall be replace(materials and
labours) at the cost of Contractor
Any materials and accessories to be used shall be stainless steel or hot dip galvanized
materials
Tenderers shall include in thier rate supply of spare netting (200 M 2) to be stored on
site to undertake repairs
Contractor rates shall include supply and installation of required scafolding / liffting
devices necessary for completion of the works
