The Japanese Government Scholarship for 2024

The Embassy of Japan in Afghanistan is pleased to announce that the Ministry of Education,
Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) of Japan offers scholarship opportunities
(Master’s Course & Doctoral Course) to the Afghan students who wish to explore academic
endeavor in Japan for the Japanese academic year 2024 under the MEXT Scholarship Program.

The scholarship will be provided in accordance with “Application Guidelines: Japanese


(MEXT) Scholarships for 2024 (Research Students)”

The following is the summary of the Guideline:

Fields of Study:

Applicants should apply for the field of study they majored in at university or its related field.
Moreover, the fields of study must be subjects which applicants will be able to study and
research in graduate courses at Japanese universities.

A student who studies medicine, dentistry or welfare science will not be allowed to engage in
clinical training such as medical care and operative surgery until he/she obtains a relevant
license from the Minister of Health, Labor and Welfare under applicable Japanese laws.

Qualifications and Conditions:

Aged under 35 years old (born after 2 April 1989) with a B.A. or equivalent
Afghan nationality
Excellent school achievements
Good physical and mental health
Motivation and commitment to study and to contribute to Afghan-Japan relationship
Sufficient proficiency in the written and spoken English (for the courses taught in
English) or Japanese language (for the courses taught in Japanese)
Successful applicants are expected to travel to Japan in April 2024.

1. Application Form
2. Placement Preference Application Form
3. Field of Study and Research Plan
4. Academic transcript for all academic year of university attended
5. Certification of graduation or degree certificate of the university attended
6. Recommendation letter from the president/dean or the academic advisor at the current
or last university attended
7. Medical certificate
8. Abstract of thesis
9. Certificate of language proficiency
10. Recommendation letter from the present employer

The interested individuals can download the required applications from below link and shall
send the soft copies of their documents by the following email address for the documents
screening and later on, only shortlisted candidates may submit the original documents on the
interview day.

Benefits:

The MEXT Scholarship is a fully funded scholarship.


Living expenses: around 140000yen (approx $1000) / month will be provided
Education fees: Free
Transport to / from Japan: economy class air ticket to / from Japan will be provided
(domestic travel etc are to be paid by the student)
The selection procedures:

At maximum 10 persons will be shortlisted and contacted for the written tests and
interview.
The Embassy of Japan will select promising applicants to recommend to the MEXT.
MEXT will then screen and select the successful applicants.

Timeline for 2023 are as follows:

Deadline of recommendation of applicants by the AKF along with the completed application
forms of those who are recommended: 15th of July 2023
Written Examinations (paper test) in Kabul 20th of July 2023
Examinations (interview) in Kabul End of July 2023
Notification of final result: December 2023

Important Notifications to be Considered:

1. The above-mentioned details and information are in general explanation. Those who
are interested to apply for this scholarship must carefully study the application
guidelines before applying to the scholarship. All required information are explained
very well in the application guideline.

2. The applicants who will successfully pass the first screening and the paper tests require
to contact with the universities by themselves and the Embassy will provide them the
links in order to find the Japanese universities for their research plan.

3. The interested applicants can see the attached file about those afghan students who
studied/studying in Japanese universities under the MEXT scholarships.
