KINDS OF SENTENCES

A declarative sentence is used to make a statement.


It ends with a period(.)

There is a truck convoy headed for Ottawa.


The Toronto Maple Leafs might win the Stanley Cup
in 2023.

An interrogative sentence asks a question. It ends


with a question mark (?)
Do you enjoy the cold in January? What is your
name? HOW OLD ARE YOU?

An imperative sentence gives a command. It usually


ends with a period.
Wait for the signal. Save me a seat, please.

Give the dog a bone. Hold the door for me. Go home.
Put the toilet seat down after you urinate.

An exclamatory sentence expresses strong


emotion(s). It ends with an exclamation point (!)

Get the hell out of here! Leave me alone!
