31

3.2. Fire Fighting Tank

The fire fighting
storage tank is 150 m³
& it’s located outside
every station.
75 cubic meters
The tank is divided per compartment
into two equal
compartments (75 m³)
to keep at least one To Pump Room
compartment to feed
the system during any
tank maintenance or
repair.
32

16
3.3. Siamese Connection

The Siamese connection Siamese

Connection
(inside the storage tank

outlet valve chamber)

provides water (from an

outside fire brigade tank) to

the pump suction main

header line, to fill water

tank if city water flow is not

adequate. Outlet Valve

Chamber

33

3.4. Underground Fire Hydrant

• Underground fire hydrant is provided to fill the fire
brigade tank from the city water.
• Underground fire hydrant is located in a chamber
located near the inlet valve chamber at street
 level

34

17
3.5. Pump Room
3.5.1. Electrical Pumps
The water system at each
station is composed of
Two main electrical
pumps (each1250 GPM @
125 Psi) supplied from two
different commercial
sources (LVB-3 & LVB-4).
Each pump is capable to
provide water to the
whole station and related
tunnel sections.

35

3.5.2. Jockey Pump

The water system at
each station is
composed of one
Jockey pump (30
GPM @ 125 Psi) to
maintain the
network under
pressure.

36

18
3.5.3. Station (Cabinets) Line
The station line
supplied from the
main discharge
header & feeds the
whole fire fighting
cabinets type “A” at
all levels of the
station. This line
controlled by OS&Y
gate valve.

37

3.5.4. Tunnel Line

The tunnel line
supplied from two
ways, one of them is
the deluge valve &
the other one is
through the by-pass
valve. Tunnel line
feeds the fire fighting
cabinets type “B”
located at the
tunnel.
38

19
3.5.5. Test Line
This line contains
the flow meter
that allows to test
the pumps & to
measure the flow
of each pump.

39

3.5.6. Gravity Line

This line used to
fill the tunnel line
directly by
gravity through
the suction
header. So the
tunnel has a
pressure of about
1.5 to 2 bar.

40

20
3.5.7. Siamese Connection Line
The Siamese connection provides water at the main
discharge line, feeding all the tunnel and station fire
hoses, and cabinets

Pump
Room

41

3.5.8. Hypochlorite Dosing System

This system used to control algae growth
inside fire water tank.

42

21
3.5.9. FFSDB
The system has 2
sources of Power:
• Commercial Power
Supply (from LVB-3).
• Emergency Power
Supply
(from LVB-4).

43

3.5.10. Electrical Pumps Controller

It consists of two main
compartments:
• Pump Controller
• Automatic Transfer
Switch (ATS)
The controller is provided
a wye-delta starting,
which reduces the
starting current to 1/3 its
excepted value.

44

22
3.5.11. Jockey Pump Controller
• Jockey Pump Controller is installed
to maintain normal water pressure
which may fluctuate slightly due to
small leaks in the system.
• The use of Jockey pump will
eliminate frequent starting of the
Main Electrical Pump.

• The Jockey Pump Controller automatically starts the

Jockey Pump Motor when the water pressure drops
below a 95 psi (7 bars).
45

3.5.11. Jockey Pump Controller

Controller is provided with 2

switches:
1. Power Switch disconnects the
commercial electrical power.
2. Hand - Off - Auto (HOA) Selector.
"Hand", the Motor starts.
"Off“ the Motor Stops.
"Auto", the Pump Motor starts when HOA
Power Switch
the pressure drops below the pre-
determined value.

46

23
3.5.12. Sensing Line
All fire pump
systems are
equipped with a
pressure sensing
line. The line is
piped into a
pressure switch in
the controller. The
pressure switch
initiates an
automatic start of
the fire pump if
the pressure falls
below a pre-
determined value.

47

3.6. Fire Cabinet

This cabinet located in
every level inside the
station & consists of the
followings:
• Fire hose reel 1” c/w
nozzle 1”.
• Gate valve 1”
• PRV 1” (from 3.5 to 4
bars).
• Angle valve 2½”.
• Fire hose 2½”.
• Nozzle 2½”.
48

24
3.7. Fire Extinguisher
It’s portable dry
chemical powder
fire extinguisher
6Kg distributed
along all of the
station & inside
every fire cabinet.

49

3.8. Fire Box

This box located at the
tunnel & consists of the
followings:
• Angle valve 2½”.
• Ball valve 2½”.
• Fire hose 2½”
• Nozzle 2½”.

50

25
3.9. Supervisory System
3.9.1. Graphic Screen
Graphic window will show the location of the alarms,
and degree of severity

51

3.9.2. Event Screen

The program will provide a list of the events . The
program records date, time, event type, location,
