1. Introduction

This specification covers the minimum technical requirements for the design, procurement,
assembly, construction, testing, supply and shipment of complete assembled Instrument Junction
Boxes (JB).
The boxes shall be designed for offshore marine climate conditions and installation on Oil and Gas
production platforms, located in the continental shelf of Tunisia in the Mediterranean Sea.
Unless otherwise specified, the applicable electrical hazardous area classification assigned for the
Platforms are classified as Zone 2, Gas IIB, Temp class T3.
It is the ultimate responsibility of the contractor to ensure that all Junction Boxes are supplied in
accordance with requirements and references of this specification.
Quantity required: as specified in table.

2. Environmental conditions, standards & codes

the ATEX 95 equipment directive 94/9/EC, Equipment and protective systems intended for use in
potentially explosive atmospheres;
the ATEX 137 workplace directive 99/92/EC, Minimum requirements for improving the safety and
health protection of workers potentially at risk from explosive atmospheres.

3. General requirements

3.1. Vendor shall supply JB in accordance with requirements of this technical specification.
3.2. In case of contradictions between standards, procedures, codes and technical requirements
vendor shall notify principal in writing prior to start any work.

3.3 Alternative design or options are acceptable provided that these are technically and
commercially better and on condition that written approval is obtained from purchaser.
3.4. Vendor bid shall be based fixed and all-in prices for the design, engineering, procurement,
construction, assembly, testing, inspection, shipment as per instruction of purchaser and the
supply of documents as requested in Attached Vendor Documents Requirement sheets.
3.5. All design and layout drawings shall be subjected to approval by Purchaser, prior to
commence assembly and construction.
3.6. Installation of JB’s at location is excluded from the scope.
3.7. All construction materials used shall be made of non-corrosive nature. CS material shall not be
used.
3.8. Contractor shall submit all design documents, as-built drawings and vendor documents as
requested. All deliverables shall be supplied in formats as specified in to Attached Vendor
Documents Required sheets.

4. Design requirement

4.1 Unless otherwise specified JB size have 271 x 271 x 136 (d x w x h mm). C3

4.2 All JB shall be designed for wall mounting, unless otherwise specified.
4.3 All JB shall be Manufactured from high strength anti-static, Glass-Fibre Reinforced Polyester
(GRP) and shall be designed to survive impact forces of up to 20 Nm.
4.4. All materials applied, including sealing material of cover and glands shall be suitable for
outdoor marine offshore climate conditions and resistant to impact of Oil, UV exposure 12 hr/day,
Salt and Sea water resistant.
4.5. All JB shall be suitable for installation in a hazardous area classified Zone 2 area, Gas group
IIB, Temp classes T6. For this project, it has been decided that junctions boxes shall be
certified to EEx (e) IIC T6 and certified to EEx (e) IIC T6 to ATEX 2D/G /EEX (e) II T6
4.6. Ingress protection shall comply to IP66 to IEC60529.
4.7 All JB shall be drilled with holes and provided with metal cables glands and blind plugs as
specified. Gland shall be preferably metric sized. (See Attachment1)
4.8 All cables shall enter the JB from the bottom flange. Multi-core cable gland shall be installed
in the center of the bottom flange.
4.9. All JB shall be supplied completely furnished with

Horizontal oriented DIN-rail (St Stl), provided with Ex-e terminals as specified. The rail to be
elevated at least 15 mm from the rear.
Metal Cable Glands as specified and furnished with blind-stop plugs.
Blind plugs as specified to accommodate future cables
Gland plate, connected the external PE connection
Isolated instrument bus bar for connecting cable screens.
Tag plates fixed inside and outside and MFR identification plate.
Manufactures identification plate.
Mounted provisions for wall or 2’’ standpipe shall be provided on the backside.
4.10 Only certified hardware materials from Original Mfr (OEM) shall be applied.
4.11 Gasket / seal material used to achieve ingress protection shall be Non- Hygroscopic type,
UV, Oil & Chemical resistant.

5. Hardware components required

5.1. Exe certified Terminals

Colour 40 grey / 20 (yellow /green)
Model UT 2.5 PE / ATEX (W=6.2 mm) /MAX Wire size 2.5mm2
Identification Std black/white markers with numeric figures (1,2,3.till 40).
Reading All readings shall be horizontal from left to right (facing front view).

5.3. PE-earth connection provision

5.4. Screen bus bar

Isolated cable screen bus bar shall be made of Cu / Messing with 25 holes drilled and provided
with 25 screws for the fixation of cable screens. Screen marking symbol shall be provided.

5.5. Cable glands with blind-stop

Metal cable glands with nuts furnished with blind-stop plugs shall be provided in accordance with
table as listed in Technical Data Sheet for Junction Boxes (SP 02A-13B-26-48070).
All glands shall be made of brass material, and certified for use the area classification as specified.
Model/make are advised with table as listed in Technical Data Sheet for Junction Boxes (SP 02A-
13B-26-48070).
Quantity as specified with table as listed in Technical Data Sheet for Junction Boxes (SP 02A-13B-
26-48070).

5.6. Blind-plugs
Blind plugs are provided in accordance with table as listed in Technical Data Sheet for Junction
Boxes (SP 02A-13B-26-48070).
All plugs are made of plastic and certified for use the area classification as specified.
Model/make are advised with table as listed in Technical Data Sheet for Junction Boxes (SP 02A-
13B-26-48070) Quantity as specified in table.

5.7. Tag plates and terminal identifications


Each JB shall be provided with permanent attached SS tag two plates with tag number
inscription as indicated in table (Technical Data Sheet for Junction Boxes)
SS metal tag plate (1x) on the cover plate of each JB – letter height shall be 20 mm.
Plastic tag plate (1x) inside the JB – letter height shall be 20 mm.
Plastic terminal marker on each terminal as indicated.
SS metal mfr identification tag plate as required.

6. Manufacturer identification tag plate

Each JB shall be provided with a permanent attached and engraved–non corrosive- identification
plate with following references.

7. Inspection, testing and certification

Unless otherwise advised all equipment and commodities specified in this TS shall be subjected to
inspection and testing by vendor prior to shipment.
Vendor shall notify purchaser or his representative to witness final inspection least one week prior
to shipment.
Purchase or his representative shall have full access right to perform inspection in contractors
workshop without notice.
Ex certificate for JB-assembly incl. cable glands, terminals shall be provided.

8. Packing & Shipment

All JB assemblies shall be shall be adequately protected against shipment by sea transport,
outdoor storage at the jobsite, ingress of moisture and dessert sand.

9. Documentation

Vendor shall supply all documents, certificates, dimensional data, manuals, wiring etc in
accordance with enclosed VDR (Vendor Document Documents) sheets.
