Exams scheduled 9.15 a.m
McLeery escorted to Evns’ cell
Two doors locked behind them
McLeery searched by Jackson –found –
semi –inflated rubber ring (contained
pig’s blood)
Removed paper knife
First call 9.40 a.m. –assistant secretary
of the Examination Board
Asked Governor if exam had begun
Said a correction slip –forgotten
Call put through to Jackson
Governor feared a hoax –called
Examination Boar –line engaged
Second call from Magistrate’s Court –
needed a prison van & 2prison officers
for remand case
Governor wondered if it was a hoax
MORE LAPSES :-
AT 10.50 A.M. –Governor heard Evans
asking for a blanket around his
shoulders –STEPHEN –got apprehensive
At 11.20 a.m. –Governor heard 5
minutes were left
At 11.22 a.m. JACKSON shouted to
STEPHEN that Governor wished to
speak to him (hoax)—STEPHEN was
instructed to accompany McLeery to
the main gate
At 11.25 –exam over – STEPHEN &
MCLEERY exit
STEPHEN returns –opened peephole to
Evans’ cell – shocked – found McLeery
semi –conscious, bleeding head, called
for police & ambulance, panic in prison
MCLEERY DECLARES ON
SEEING GERMAN PAPER :-
