MANY CONCERNS, FEW OBSERVERS

Anxiety as itself is the feeling of fear or concern towards different situations. This can bring up

different anatomy’s anomalies where sweating, feeling restless and tense, and having heavy

palpitations are symptoms of a reaction to stress, which is a completely normal reaction of the human

body. Anxiety Disorder is the anomaly where people live with constant worry throughout their lives.

“Occasional anxiety is a normal part of life. Many people worry about things such as health, money,

or family problems. But anxiety disorders involve more than temporary worry or fear. For people with

an anxiety disorder, the anxiety does not go away and can get worse over time.” (Anxiety Disorders, s.

f.-b)

We live in a society in which pressure is affecting human’s daily life, this includes having problems

with social and educational pressure. Social anxiety starts to show up in the teenage period, usually

teenagers face the truth in their early ages because they’re building their futures up. They have

constant anxiety because they deal with people around them who make them feel insecure about their

aesthetic and way of living.

➢ TYPES OF ANXIETY DISORDERS

➔ Anxiety disorder may be caused by similar types of phobias. A specific phobia could be led because

of a traumatic fear in the past, such as the worst environments during a certain period of time in a

person’s life. Remembering the old days, having the image, or looking at objects that are related to

those traumatic events, can cause an anxiety disorder in people.

➔ Social phobia is well known as one of the principal anxiety disorders. Social phobia is a mental

health condition where social interactions may cause fear and illogical anxiety. This can be

chronological or short-standing situations; the last mentioned can be presented easily during the

school’s years with all the public speeches works or the trying to link into new people. Chronic

social phobia is the fear of getting actively involved with people, affecting self-esteem and daily

social interactions.

➔ GAD or Generalized Anxiety Disorder involves constant worry, restlessness, and trouble

concentrating; making people suffer not only mentally, but also physically. People with this disorder

tend to worry about minimum things constantly without having control over it.

➔ Obsessive-compulsive disorder characterizes itself as the compulsive thoughts and fears that involve

weird actions. This disorder could also be shown as the necessity of repetitive actions, like doing

step-by-step routines, where if something is changed, there is an impacting effect; or the necessity of

having everything always clean and perfectly. This anxiety disorder can be changed over the years.

➔ TEPT or Post-traumatic stress disorder as its name says, is the recovery of a traumatic event. It

usually occurs to people who were abused (sexual, verbal, etc) in the past. This disorder is one of the

hardest ones to treat because it can last years. Its symptoms are having nightmares, anxiety attacks

by remembering traumas, depression, among others. TEPT can guide into another mental health

conditions such as bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder, and schizophrenia.

4
➢ CAUSES OF THE DISORDER

➔ MEDICAL: For part of the population, anxiety may be linked to heart disease, respiratory

disease, diabetes, thyroid problems, substance withdrawal, hormone-producing tumors with

"fight or flight" reactions. It can also be said that anxiety can be a side effect of some

medications.

➔ TRAUMA: Many infants who have experienced abuse, maltreatment or witnessed

interpersonal traumatic events are at high risk of manifesting anxiety disorder. This has little

to do with age, as adults who have experienced traumatic events also manifest anxiety.

➔ ACCUMULATION OF STRESS: This can occur when there are events of relevance that

cause an excess of anxiety that is manifested by the stress produced, a great example of these

causes are the death of a family member, continuous worries about finances, stress at work,

social stress.

➔ VARIOUS PERSONALITY TYPES: People's personality also has a lot to do with it, since

anxiety has been found in very social and vain people, as well as in insecure and introverted

people.

➔ EXTERNAL DISORDERS: People suffering from other mental disorders, suffer from

anxiety in the same way, since the excess stress generated by carrying their disorders, ends up

causing more fear and stress in the affected people.

➔ INHERITANCE: Also, according to many studies, excessive anxiety can be hereditary

between parents and children. In addition to that, it is also important to emphasize how

dangerous it is for a pregnant mother to have this disorder.

➢ SYMPTOMS

➔ Feeling nervous

➔ Restless or tense

➔ Having a sense of impending danger, panic or doom

➔ Having an increased heart rate

➔ Breathing rapidly (hyperventilation)

➔ Sweating

➔ Trembling

➔ Feeling weak or tired

➢ TREATMENTS

➔ Psychotherapy:

“Psychotherapy is a general term for treating mental health problems by talking with a psychiatrist,

psychologist or other mental health provider.” (Mayo Clinic. 2016)

Talking out about mental problems can help realize what you are afraid of. Depending on the disorder

you are treating, is how long this treatment will last. Specialist in psychotherapy can reach most of all

the disorders, getting a more personalized attention and help.

➔ Pharmaceuticals:

Antibiotics, vaccines, and medicine in general are created by a group of chemical specialists in which

studies of the body can be used for therapeutic purposes. These medicines may include elements such

as: nicotine, atropine, morphine, and cocaine; which are linked to create chemical reactions in the

body. Anxiety disorder’s medicines objective are mostly to relax and calm the body.

➢ CONCLUSION

In Colombia, at least 19.8% of the population between 18-65 years of age reported that at

least one moment in their lives, they experienced anxiety disorder. And at least 3.6% of the

world's population suffers from anxiety. Anxiety disorder is a disease that occurs in any

person, regardless of age or physical condition. This, as mentioned above, is generated by

several factors. Therefore, it can occur in anyone. Obviously, there are more advanced and

severe anxieties in some people than in others, the people who have the strongest anxiety are

usually people with social phobia or one generated by another disorder. It is identified that

women in their reproductive years are more prone to develop this disorder, because the social

pressure increases a lot at that age.
