Lucy: Welcome to the Congo! We’re are, Nicolas Osorio, Nury Hernández, Juan Pablo
González, Valentina Hernández, María José Lugo and me Lucia Nieto. Let’s start knowing
where the Congo is located!
Majo: where is the Congo?Congo is located in the central-western part of sub-Saharan Africa,
along the Equator, lying between latitudes 4°N and 5°S, and longitudes 11° and 19°E. To the
south and east of it is the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Brazzaville is one of the twelve administrative regions, both the capital and largest city of the
Republic of the Congo, which is located in Africa.
Kinshasa, mostly written as Kinshasa in French and known from 1881 to 1966 as Leopoldville,
is the capital and largest city of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, let’s continue with the
gastronomy.
Nury:The population of the Congo has approximately 80 million inhabitants their major
languages are Lingala, Kikongo, Tshiluba an Swahili but it is considered that French is their
main language,Their area is about 2 345 410 km or approximately the size of Western Europe
and slightly less than 1/4 of the United States or 875,313 milles.
Congos population is about 1.15% of the world population. Does anyone know about Congos’
religion?
Lucy: yes I know that They have over 200 (two-hundred) ethnic groups. approximately 50% of
the Congolese population practice Christianity; 90% of these Christians are Roman Catholics.
A significant number of Christians practice Kimbanguism which is the practice of Christian
religion together with their native religions. let’s go with the languages jampol
Jampol: The Democratic Republic of the Congo is a multilingual country where an estimated
total of 242 languages are spoken.Ethnologue lists 215 living languages. The official language,
inherited from the colonial period, is French. They also have four other languages, three of
them indigenous, which have the status of national language: Kikongo, Lingala, Swahili and
Tshiluba.
51% of the total population speaks French and 74% are using French as their native language.
When the country was a Belgian colony, it had already instituted teaching and use of the four
national languages in primary schools, making it one of the few African nations to have had
literacy in local languages during the European colonial period. French remains the official
language in the Congolese government and is spoken by half of the population.
Zaireans take to the streets to watch the parades and enjoy the various events that take place.
The traditional festival of congo is celebrated from january 20, saint sebastian day, until Ash
Wednesday.
