Learning a second language (English) is never easy for those who have Punjabi culture.

From birth to the age of sixteen I was not able to write and speak English because there were

some complexities and difficulties in the learning process. It is stated that learning of language is

a complex system involving several stages.

Primarily, in Pakistan majority of the people are multilingual they can easily speak many

different languages such as Punjabi, Urdu and English etc. Although, English has been

considered as a second language in Pakistan but the practicing of this language is not sufficient.

Thus, at the political domain English is considered as a second language but in the actual it is not

being practiced at anywhere. Rationally, English is not considered as a second language yet,

because in Pakistan people are practicing this language for only academic purposes. Even our

government’s teachers are teaching the language for educational purposes.

A decay ago the educational Learning process had been become very difficult for me

because I did not study from the English medium school. There was no proper teaching system

in government institute where the teachers taught me the basics of English language because

English is not the native language of this country. While in the university I have learnt about

English language, I have learned so many things which I had never read before.

Language is a complex system involving several stages, in my childhood teachers told

me that English sentence structure is different from Urdu so if you want to make a sentence you

will have to follow the structure. It is very common and old example of present tense it is a

basic for English language learning process “ wo school jata hy”, He goes to school. All the

teachers mostly bound the children on this old learning process. Teachers typically bound their

thinking and creative abilities on the translating process, and structures rules and restrictions. It is
stated that the rules and structure system is important but it always bounds the learning process.

Mostly, children do not try to speak English because they feel hesitation and reluctant and

always think about formations and structures.

Conclusively, I admire that learning of second language is depended upon institutions,

environment, teaching method and practices.
