Ans. All colours of the Indian flag have meanings.
Saffron stands for bravery and courage, white
stands for truth and purity, green stands for
growth and prosperity. The blue wheel in the
centre of the blue band stands for movement.
2. Explain what a festival is. How do people
celebrate festivals?
Ans. A festival is a period of a day or a few days,
when people celebrate a special event. People
celebrate festivals by offering prayers, wearing
new clothes, eating special food and by singing
songs.
3. Write in one sentence why each of the following
festivals is celebrated:
a. Buddha Purnima: It is celebrated to honour the
birth of Gautama Buddha.
b. Gurupurab: It is celebrated to honour the birth
of Guru Nanak.
c. Mahabir Jayanti. It is celebrated to honour the
birth of Mahavira.
d. Christmas: It is celebrated to honour the birth of
Jesus Christ.
4. Write how each of the following festivals is
celebrated:
a. Diwali: People decorate the houses with lights,
eat special food and sing songs related to the
festival. People also worship goddess Laxmi.
b. Basant Panchami: People wear yellow clothes
and fly kites. In some parts of India people worship
goddess Saraswati.
c. Eid: People offer prayers, eat special food and
exchange gifts.
