CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION

This research entitled Library System of Mayamot Elementary School is all about

making a solution on the problems that the said school encounter regarding to the

school’s manual-based system. Library system is the software used to catalog, track

circulation, and inventory a library’s assets. It is intended for small to medium sized

library. The researchers find and create a solution that will replace the Manual-based

library system of Mayamot Elementary School. The system was made using Microsoft

Access and consist of four parts. First is the log in form, wherein the students can

register or log in their own accounts. Second is the student form, this is where all of the

student’s data goes. Third is the book form, wherein all of the records of book

categories are listed. And lastly the Admin form, it is made for authentication and only

exclusive to be used by the Librarian.

Background of the Study

Mayamot Elementary School was established on the year 1941 under the

administration of late Mayor Jose Carigma. The school is located at Sumulong Highway,

Antipolo City. It started with few enrollees averaging 100-200 students. As the time goes

by the school enrollees began to expand, and school problems regarding the facilities

arises. During the administration of Ex- Mayor Angelito Gatlabayan the school was

renovated. With the help of Mayor Angelito Gatlabayan and City Council, new building

was built with new classroom and facilities to accommodate the expanding number of

students. New facility includes the school library. At the beginning, the library started
with a few books that came from the donations of different private sectors. At the preset

the library now total of 161 book categories and estimated value of three thousand

number of students. The library was operated by Mrs. Joselia L. Custodio, aside from

being a librarian she also teaches Grade 3 pupils in the subject Basic Science. The

Mayamot Elementary School was operated by teachers leaded by Principal Romeo G.

Rodriguez Jr. Principal III.

Statement of the Problem

General Problem

With number of 161 book categories and an estimated number of 3 thousand

students, the librarian finds it hard to record and store all the data. The librarian doubles

the effort in work to maintain the library.

Specific Problem

1. Takes a lot of time to record the data of student.

2. The school doesn’t have any backup incase the log book wherein they store

the data was lost.

3. Difficultness of storing the data.

4. Slow processing of borrowing of books.

5. Difficultness to track the availability of books that can be borrowed and those

students who borrowed.

Scope and Delimitation

The system is limited only to do library, this can be used to register new records

of students that will borrow books, stores all the data and records of books and

students, and to track the availability of books and those students who are borrowing

books from the library. The system is not capable of tracking penalties of students. The

system is a computer software only and cannot be used in online. This system was not

for sale and only made for Mayamot Elementary School Library.

Objectives of the Study

General Objective

This system aims to make the Mayamot Elementary School Library system more

conveniently to students and the school librarian.

Specific Objective

1. Make the process of borrowing books faster and hassle-free.

2. Keep the records secured.

3. Easily tracks the records of those students who borrowed books.

4. Monitor and find the book that intended to be borrowed easier.

5. Record the data of students accurately and fast.

Significance of the study

Librarian

It will lessen the work of the librarian. The librarian can easily maintain the

records of the books and students. The librarian doesn’t have to worry anymore

regarding on the security of the files. The system has a backup also in case of

unforeseen events.

Students

The system will help the student regarding on the process of borrowing books.

They don’t have to create a library card and wait for the long process just to borrow a

book from the library anymore because the in the new system Computerized

registration is all the students need and the name of book intended to be borrowed.

Future Researchers

The future researchers can adopt this study or use this as a reference in case

they will chose to study the same topic or furthermore.
