LECTURE HANDOUT 2: PW TARGET AUDIENCE

In PW, it is good to be able to identify specific community groups, so that you can
clearly identify their needs.

There are students who do not realise that they have picked General / Non-Specific TA
for their PW topic, and this create problems when trying to empathise and identify their
needs.
General / Non-Specific TA (Examples): You should AVOID selecting such TA for your
PW topic.
General Public These are faceless masses with no
general descriptors, behaviourial traits or
actual needs
Women / Men Too broad. What age range? What
specific descriptors or behavioural traits?
Students Do you mean from pre-school all the way
to university? Or even post-university?
Teenagers This is from 13-19 years old. They are in
Secondary schools, JCs, ITE,
Polytechnics & Universities. Are you
targeting all of them?
Primary / Secondary School students Lower Primary / Secondary students have
noticeably different behavioural traits
when compared to Upper Primary /
Secondary students. Are you targeting all
levels?

So what are some examples of Specific TA? Can you come up with some examples.
You can also think about what is the appropriate method to conduct Primary Research
with that specific TA.
Check with your PW Subject Tutor to see if he / she agrees with you.
