U-shaped Siphon

Description of the Experiment

Demonstration of the working of U-shaped siphon.

Introduction:
A U-shaped siphon, also known as a U-tube siphon, is a device that is commonly used to transfer fluids from one container to another by using
the force of gravity. The siphon consists of a bent tube in the shape of a "U" and is typically made of a durable and non-reactive material,
such as glass or plastic. The principle behind a U-shaped siphon is based on the fact that a liquid will naturally flow from a higher point to a
lower point when given the opportunity to do so. The U-shaped siphon takes advantage of this principle by allowing the liquid to flow down one
arm of the U-shaped tube, across the bottom, and up the other arm, ultimately emptying into the desired container. U-shaped siphons are
commonly used in a variety of applications, from aquarium maintenance to laboratory experiments, and can be easily constructed using simple
materials.

In this experiment, we are going to demonstrate the working of an U-shaped siphon.

Activity:
1. Fill one of the containers with the liquid(in this case
water) you wish to transfer.
2. Insert one end of the U-shaped siphon into the
container, making sure that the tube is completely
submerged in the liquid.
3. Hold the other end of the siphon over the second
container, ensuring that it is lower than the first container.
4. Observe the movement of the liquid.
Observation:

Observe that the liquid will begin to flow down one arm of
the U-shaped tube, across the bottom, and up the other
arm, ultimately emptying into the second container
