This report is a compilation of twelve weeks industrial attachment I had at Narok County
Referral Hospital, Human Resource Department. The report summarizes the work done

CHAPTER ONE:
INTRODUCTION
Its main objective is to ensure universal access to quality health services consisting of
promotive, preventive, curative, and rehabilitative services to all people in the County.

2.1 HISTORY OF NAROK COUNTY REFERRAL HOSPITAL.
Narok County Referral Hospital is a public Hospital under the Narok County Department of
health and sanitation. The hospital is in Narok town, Narok North Sub County. The hospital
serves a population of around 1, 157, 873 people on referral basis and 41,500 in catchment. It
is the only level IV facility in parts of Bomet County (Mulot area) and Kajiado County
( Mosiro)
The hospital has 36 sections with a total of 388 staff. The hospital has a bed capacity of 195
with average of 90 -110 bed occupancy of daily. The hospital opened its doors in 1930 during
the colonial era with clay and bricks buildings. In 1938-1941 the buildings were upgraded
by the native industrial training department. The British Government added some wards
which currently house the administration block. In 1942 the Italian prisoners of war under
the British Government built staff quarters. Which were Later demolished in the year 2020
to pave way for the development of the new hospital wing. Post Independent period in 1983,
Nyayo ward and the Outpatient department were built by Kenyan Government and
commissioned by then President, Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi. In the period between 1994-
2007, the amenity ward was built by cost sharing funds. In 2007-2008 Operation Eyesight
Universal in conjunction with the Government of Kenya further constructed the Eye Unit,
Following devolution, The Narok County Government did renovation of all buildings in the
period between 2015-2016 and subsequently upgraded the hospital to a County Referral
Level IV Hospital. The National Government under the MES project constructed a State of
the art Renal, CT scan and Intensive Care Unit In 2016-2017. Moreover, modern theatre
and radiological equipment were further installed after rehabilitation of both Theatre and
Radiology Units. In 2019 to date, the County government embarked on an ambitious massive

CHAPTER FIVE:

5.2 CONCLUSION
In conclusion, I benefited a lot during my industrial attachment. I managed to apply
theoretical knowledge from the university into practice through many tasks which I
