Curriculum Overview
English
The first unit of Grade 6 English focuses on the literary genre of life
writing through the lense of the IMYC Big Idea, Collaboration.
Students will explore the literary conventions of the genre by
studying extracts from autobiographies by authors from different
backgrounds and experiences, such as celebrities, business figures,
sports players, artists and politicians. The course will conclude with
students reflecting on important moments in their lives, eventually
composing an autobiographical piece of their own.

Life Skills/STEAM
This term, students will be looking into the difference between
a fixed and growth mindset. Students will explore the elements

mindset can make to their learning. Students will then develop
their research and presentation skills. They will consider the
reliability and usefulness of sources, learn how to organise
notes, develop an understanding of plagiarism and how to
structure an essay. Students will have some ownership over this
as they can select a topic to research and will develop their
own question.

be able to identify their areas of strength and areas
