Speaking Test

Part 2. - Cue card section

1. In this section a card will be given with some topics written

2. Prompts/ Sub points will also be given

3. Duration of the speech 3 to 4 minutes

4. 1 minute time will be given to prepare, pen and paper will be given to draft notes. You can use this
one minute to draft the points that come to mind and speak on that topic.

5. Drafted notes should be simple and short and mainly these points shout trigger the sentence/
idea/ thought you wish to express

6.Topics for cue card

Current affairs and General Knowledge related topic will not be given

The topics given will be Descriptive based/ experienced based

7. Example for experienced based topic

Describe a historical place that you visited

8. Example for Descriptive based topic

Describe a gift that you received from your friend.

Three strategies for Cue card

1. Mind mapping

2. Visualisation

3. Wh questions

Mind mapping- It can be done in two ways which would be useful to come up with points

1. Drawing a circle- Topic should be in the centre of the circle and prompts on the branches

2. Vertical way- Prompts can be written as main points and can jot down points under it

3. This should be done using the 1 minute time given for preparation which would inturn help you
speak with ease

Visualisation- This can be used if you don't know what to say about the topic. You can visualize and
jot down the points that come to your mind, you should be specific and can go into detail

WH questions- Think of WH questions, relate WH questions to your topic, answers for the WH
questions will help you with the speech for the Cue card.

Points to remember while attempting Cue card

1. Points should be relevant it need not be right.


2. As it is a language test, you should try to use as many phrases and vocabulary.

3. You can cook up stories and be smart enough to come up with ideas and recollect ideas.
