For my project, I started to organize and promote a health fair that Primary Pediatrics will
be putting on in October. Last year, Primary Pediatrics put on a health fair for their patients and
families. My supervisor told me that for this year’s health fair, she wanted it to be more
informative and fun for everyone who attended. Health fairs are supposed to be educational and
informative by promoting and bringing awareness to individuals health. The goal of the health
fair I planned was that it was going to be informative, educational, and fun. By having different
informative organizations, educational classes, and fun activities, I believe that this health fair
will be very successful. Primary Pediatrics strives to provide the best care to ensure the health
and safety of all their patients. By putting on a health fair, Primary Pediatrics will be living by
their mission statement and ensuring their patients health. I wanted my project to make a positive
impact on all our patients. I also wanted my background in public health to be involved with my
project. With being a public health major, my education has taught me how to promote and bring
awareness to certain health issues. All our patients at Primary Pediatrics struggle with health
issues that are due to certain determinants of health. Our patients and their families are not
educated when it comes to how to have a healthy lifestyle and how to maintain it. The goal of
this health fair is to educate them and inform them on how to have a healthy lifestyle.
My first step in this project was to sit down with my supervisor and find out what the
main goal of the health fair was going to be. My supervisor told me that the health fair they put
on last year was not as informative as she would have liked for it to be. After we talked about the
main goals and how to make it different, I started organizing the whole health fair. I reached out
to every organization that was involved last year and asked more organizations to attend this
year. After getting in touch with every organization, I reached out to the local fire, police, and
ambulance departments to see if they would be willing to bring in their cars for the kids. The

whole process of getting in touch with all these organizations and people was not very difficult
but very time consuming. Some of the organizations I reached out to dealt with insurance,
fitness, eating healthy, mental health, and baby formula. All these organizations will be very
informative and beneficial for our patients’ families. After figuring out how to make the health
fair informative, I started doing research on what educational classes should be at this health fair.
I talked to different co-workers and the pediatricians on certain health issues all our patients
struggle with and how we could educate them. On every hallway there will be an educational
class for anyone who attends the health fair. The first hallway will be for free STD screening and
kids will be educated on various forms of contraceptives. The second hallway will be a self-
defense class. We will have a lady come in and teach patients how to protect themselves in
harmful situations. On the third hallway we will have a lactation and a pediatrician educating
first time moms or expecting mothers. The fourth hallway will have a nutritionist and fitness
trainer teaching patients’ proper hygiene and how to have a healthy lifestyle. The last hallway
will be a class learning how to sign up for an app called Healow. Healow allows parents to go
into their kids’ portals and see their diagnosis, what medication they are on, and their latest
vitals. These five hallways will be educational classes and skills that professionals will be able to
teach patients and their families. The last main goal of the health fair was for it to be fun. I
wanted these patients and families to be able to have a good time and want to be there. Since the
health fair is going to be in October, we will be making it like a fall festival. There will be a
hayride, pumpkin painting, bouncy houses, and food trucks. The kids will be able to have a good
The main materials I created for this project were informational flyers that can be passed
out at the health fair. I also created flyers discussing the logistics of the health fair that will be

put up around Primary Pediatrics in August. Since the health fair has not happened yet, I do not
have an evaluation of how it went. I was able to present this project idea to all the pediatricians
and staff at Primary Pediatrics. They all loved this proposal and were very excited to be able to
implement this idea for the patients and families. I am very excited to see how the health fair
turns out and I will be coming back to Macon to attend it. Planning and organizing the health fair
for Primary Pediatrics was very fun for me. I was able to take my background in public health

Overall, this project went very well for me. I was able to gain some valuable insight from
the pediatricians at my internship site. I was also able to organize an event that will be very
beneficial to all our patients. Our patients have made such an impact on me in these two months,
and I am so happy to be doing something for them. Organizing this health fair could be very
stressful at times but overall, my background in public health prepared me well for these
challenges. I am so glad I am helping Primary Pediatrics by planning this health fair and my
supervisor! I cannot wait to see how it turns out and I hope that everyone who attends will leave
