Hatches

The function senses if the engine hatch and/or the baggage hatches are open. If a hatch
is open, a warning is generated on BIC. If the parking brake is released, an acoustic
alarm sounds from BIC instead of the warning. For further information, please refer to:

Hatches
Purpose
The function senses if the engine hatch and/or the
baggage hatches are open. If a hatch is open, a warning
is generated on BIC. If the parking brake is released, an
acoustic alarm sounds from BIC instead of the warning.

Conditions
• Main power on (+30)
• Ignition on (+15)

Function
The following control units are involved:

• Body-builder module (BBM)

• Instrument control unit (BIC)

Note: If the bus is equipped with a BEA-Body and AIC,

then this display is also used by the function.

When the engine hatch or baggage hatches are opened,

a signal is sent to the BBM. The signal is either hard-wired
to the body-builder connectors and then forwarded to
BBM, or is sent as a D-bus message directly to BBM.
BBM checks if the parking brake is active.

If the parking brake is active, BBM sends a message -

PPID208/PSID100/105 - via the J1587/J1708 information
link to BIC. BIC shows a warning for open engine/baggage
hatch at the same time as the yellow information lamp
is lit.

If the vehicle is fitted with a BEA-Body and AIC, then

the message is also sent via the D-bus to AIC, which
shows the corresponding symbol on it’s display. If the
parking brake is inactive, then BBM sends the same
message - PPID208/PSID100/105 - via information link
J1587/J1708, to BIC, which shows a warning symbol on
the display, lights the red stop light and starts an acoustic
alarm. This information is sent to AIC.
