Role
The function manages the windscreen wipers, its different
positions and windscreen washing.

Conditions
• Main power on (+30)
• Ignition on (+15)

Function
Windscreen wipers
The following control units are involved:

• Control unit for external lighting (LCM)

The wipe blade motor is supplied with power by a relay,

which in turn is controlled by the LCM. There are three
wiper blade positions

• Interval — blade wipes across the screen every 10

seconds
• Normal speed
• High speed

When the interval or ordinary wiper function has been

selected using the lever, the motor is supplied with high
voltage and the wiper moves from the park position to its
top position and then back. When the wiper returns to the
park position, the motor detects a low voltage and waits
for the next high voltage pulse which means movement of
the wiper blade.

Where wiper blades are frozen to the screen, the LCM

detects that something is wrong. The LCM immediately
switches off the power supply through the relay, to prevent
wiper motor burnout, and the wipers move to the “OFF”
position.

Windscreen washing
The LCM should supply the wiper blade motor with power
while the lever for washing is depressed, and for the extra
time required for the blade to wipe three times across the
windscreen.
