Introduction
This tutorial introduces 2D Drawing. This is an important tool for design engineers and commercial
designers.
Most engineering drawings start or are heavily influenced by 2D Drawings. Arguably the most
important or useful benefit of 2D drafting is to create engineering drawings with speed and efficiency.

When a command is selected in Visi, the Left-hand menu offers a wide range of
options relative to that command, During the exercise we will become familiar with
some of these options.

2. Select the Point environment Icon and then the enhanced pick from the Left-hand
menu.
3. Hover the cursor over the origin and select it with M1 Click
4. Drag the cursor to the left-hand side and enter a dimension of 275mm into the highlighted
box and press enter.
You can cycle through Dimensional and angular options by pressing the TAB key on the
keyboard

5. Snap on the left hand of the line and drag the Cursor upwards, then enter a value of
180mm and press Enter.
6. Snap the cursor on the newly created element and drag toward the right, enter a distance
of 200mm Press Enter to confirm.
.
7. Snap on and move the cursor downwards and enter the value of 75mm.

8. Snap on and move the cursor towards the right then75 enter a value of 75mm.
9. To complete the outer shape, snap the cursor onto the work plane origin.

2. Hover the cursor over the external corner and it will highlight the 2 edges shown in the
picture below.
3. M1 click on the corner and fill in the value of 20mm in the First distance, preview and
confirm to create the chamfer.
VISI
4. Now move the cursor over the external corner in the bottom right area of the drawing to
highlight the two edges shown below.
You can also pick the edges individually instead of both at once
5. M1 click and type a value of 25mm in the first distance box and apply.
The resulting chamfers shown below.
1. Select Wireframe►Circle/Arc-Fillet
VISI
2. Again, just like the Chamfer command, hover over the corner to highlight both edges at
one.
You can also pick the edges individually instead of both at once
Create a fillet with a radius of 20mm and then click the preview button then the Apply button.
VISI
3. Add the three other fillets following the same process to achieve the results below
You can confirm most commands in Visi by M2 click instead of the Apply/Ok Buttons
4. Below is the drawing now the chamfer and fillets have been added.
2. Highlight over the line at the base of the Outer shape and M1 click
Page 12 of 39
VISI
3. Enter 15mm into the Distance and activate Line, check the preview and confirm.
4. Now Highlight and M1 click on the left vertical line of the outer shape and set a distance
of 50mm.
5. Highlight and M1 click on the newly created vertical line and draw a new line at a
distance of 100mm using the same process used for the previous lines.

7. M1 click on the Bottom left intersection and choose the X Axis as the reference
Direction, M2 Click to confirm this.

9. Now repeat this command at the opposite Intersection and draw a 45-degree angle line
again.
You may have to cycle through the Display results to achieve the correct Angle line.
10. Select Edit►Break Direct then highlight and M1 click on the Horizontal Line.
Notice that the line is trimmed to leave the inner part of the segment.

11. Repeat this process on the two 45-degree angled lines to achieve the result below.
15. Enter a Value of 10mm in the Dialog box, move your cursor back into the splash screen
and M2 click. This will confirm the Fillet
19. Touch the radius at the top of the triangle with the cursor and M1 click.

The following exercise will create the T slot group, as there are one or more
identical elements, we will use some of the editing commands to copy and
reposition the elements.

2. M1 click on the insert points co-ordinates icon from the left-hand menu and enter
(X-225, Y160).
3. Click Ok to confirm, then enter a radius of 5mm in the dialog and confirm to create the
circle.
5. To create the third circle, enter the coordinates (X -210, Y130) and then click OK to
accept a radius of 5mm.

6. Click on the cancel button from the top of the Graphics area
12. Now M1 click at the top of the next circle and create a segment line between them.

When creating a Segment/Line between to elements, depending on where you pick the
element can impact on the tangency to the next element.
Repeat the process to create a line between the bottom halves of the 2 circles.
13. Now create the 2 lines from the top circle to the elements as shown below.

15. Select Edit ►Break direct from the Pull-down menu.
16. Remove all of the geometry not required to achieve the result below.

17. Drag a window around the T-slot to highlight it.
Remember, there are two types of window you can use to select geometry.
18. Now select the Incremental translation icon from the left-hand menu then enter 50mm in
the X axis and select 2 copies as shown below.

The next objective is to copy the three T slots into a mirrored position, firstly we will
create a reference point to Mirror from.
Select Wireframe►Segment/Line-Parallel
21. Enter a distance of 60mm, Use the reverse side to achieve the correct destination of the
line, click on the apply button to confirm.
The Parallel line is created. This will be used as a reference to mirror the T-slots.

23. Select the Icon copy elements from the left-hand menu.
25. With the Enhanced pick option selected, M1 click anywhere on the line.
26. Select the X axis from the left-hand menu and confirm with M2 click, this will achieve
the result below.

Use the delete function to remove the parallel line as this is no longer required.
The mirrored result is shown below.
3. Define the Matrix parameters as shown below and preview the matrix on the screen.

In this stage we are going to annotate the drawing .A preview image of what we
could expect to achieve in this step, is displayed below.

Using what we have learned try to fully dimension the drawing in a similar fashion to
the original specification.
Remember that switching between Elements and Points can give different style
dimensions.

Over the next few pages are some 2D drawings to draft and Dimension, try out
some new Annotation commands.
Ask your tutor to explain the many other Annotation commands, alternatively press the
