PERFORMANCE TASK IN BUSINESS MATH

1. Identify at least one existing economic problems in the Philippines that you want to solve
by either manufacturing a new product or innovating an existing one.

- One existing economic problem here in the Philippines is Malnutrition. The economic impact
of malnutrition is equivalent to $4.5 billion a year, or 3 percent of GDP annually, according to Unicef
Philippines Nutrition Specialist Rene Gerard C. Galera Jr. The amount represents health costs, as well
as lost productivity and lost opportunities of the country's future work force. I want to innovate the
protein shake product by adding amino acids into it.

2. Provide a brief description of your product including your target market with their age
groups, career groups and gender.

Lei’s Organic Protein with Essential Amino Acids is a supplement with a blend of carbohydrates,
protein, and essential amino acids, which are used to help you gain weight and gain sufficient
nutrients that your body needs. Protein powders can be a beneficial supplement for many people,
especially for athletes, adults, children, vegetarians, and vegans. They are a convenient source of
complete protein. They also contain other nutrients. Amino acids are compounds that consist of
hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon. They’re instrumental in protein formation. Each type of
amino acid is distinguished by a structure called a side chain. These side chains give amino acids
specific functions in the body, making them incredibly versatile.

Target Market: People lacking of nutrition

Age Group: 10-55 years old

Career Groups: Athletes, adults, children, vegetarians, and vegans

Gender: Both Male and Female

3. Long term objectives of the business. (vision and mission)

Vision: "To become the true global leader in value-added organic protein while
sustaining attractive returns"
Mission: “We’re here to discover and deliver all the wonders organic protein
can bring to people’s lives”
4. Provide a simple costing of your product. Hint: If you are to manufacture a new product,
cost of innovation is not necessary.

Example:
Material Cost: P 800
Labor Cost: 100
Overhead: 300
Total Costs: P 1,200

5. Compute for your product’s selling price using mark-up based on costs.

6. Provide a simple computation of your net income. Hint: To compute for your net income,
you must imagine how many items of your product you will be able to sell for a month, what
are the necessary expenses needed like salary, delivery expenses and the like.

Revenue (Sales in a month) P 1,200 (120 products per day) (30 days) = Php. 4,320,000
Less: Cost of Goods Sold (or services) Php. 3,240,000
Less: Operating Expenses Php. 360,000
Less: Interest Php. 60,000
Less: Tax Php. 100,000
Net Profit Php. 560,000

7. List at least two ways to improve your net income.

- Pay Off Credit Card Debt. ...

- Build an Emergency Fund

8. Share your realization by answering the question, how will your product eliminate or solve
your identified economic problem in the Philippines?

My product can help solve malnutrition here in the Philippines because having a
proper amount of protein in one’s everyday living will help with overall satiety, which means
having a protein shake will help you to feel full for hours after. Protein does so much for your
body like curbing hunger and maintaining healthy body composition.

Nutrients are the building blocks for a healthy body. They create a firm foundation for
a lifestyle abundant in energy, vibrant moods, strong bones and muscles, and much more.
You need a balanced amount of vitamins, minerals, and nutrients—especially amino acids—
to achieve this goal.

Amino acids are good for many different bodily functions. Digesting food, fortifying soft
tissues, supplying energy—you need amino acids to do all of these things, and more. It’s
important to get enough amino acids each day.
