Starting the Radio
To start the radio, press the Display Radio hotkey. The default hotkey is the
Backslash (“\”) key. This can be rebound at your convenience.
Once the Display Radio key has been pressed, the radio will begin its boot sequence.
You will see two versions flash quickly on the screen, and all three LEDs (all three
colors, on a portable radio) will turn on in quick succession. Once the radio is booted
and usable, an audible “BEEP” alert will be heard.
On the first startup of the radio, you will be prompted to allow access to your
microphone. Press F8, then click “allow” at the bottom of the screen. This only needs
to be done once per server. A screenshot of this is displayed below.

If the radio does not start within about 5 seconds, or an ERR code appears on the
screen, refer to “Troubleshooting Issues”

5
Receiving a Radio Call
When receiving a radio call, the radio will activate several features.
The multifunction/orange LED will glow continuously, indicating the radio is
receiving traffic.
The screen will change to display the speaking user’s Subscriber ID, which is
unique to that user.
The RSSI display will also change to the Incoming Call icon.

6
Sending a Radio Call
To send a radio call, first ensure the channel is not currently active. Check for an
“ID:” display on the main display of the radio, an orange LED, or the “Rx” icon in the
RSSI spot on the display. Once you have verified the channel is not busy, press the
Push-to-Talk keybind (Default: “F3”). The radio will quickly flash the red LED, indicating
the system talk request is being sent. Once the talk request is approved, the radio will
play the Talk Permit tone, and the red LED will turn on solid, indicating the radio is
transmitting.
- If the radio emits the “Bonk” tone, and displays “Busy”, the channel is currently
active, and the radio user should wait for the channel to become clear before
attempting to talk.
- If the radio emits the “Bonk” tone, and displays “Out of Rng”, the radio is
currently operating in Out of Range mode. Move to a better communications
location, or use a mobile radio, to ensure call is successfully sent.
- If the radio emits the “Bonk” tone, and displays “Tx Denied”, the radio is not
correctly affiliated with a channel, or has been inhibited. Refer to Radio
Troubleshooting for further details.
- If the radio emits the “Bonk” tone, and displays “Rx Only”, the current channel
has been marked as “Receive Only” in the radio codeplug. The radio user may
not transmit on this channel. See your system administrator for additional
information.

7
Emergency Operation
If the radio user experiences an emergency, and the system has been properly
configured, they may use the “Emergency” button to indicate to all radio users that
they are in a distressed state. When an emergency is activated, all radios on the same
channel will receive an emergency tone, and the display will indicate an emergency call
was received. Additionally, the radio user will receive a periodic, 15 second reminder,
indicating that the channel is under an emergency condition. When the radio user who
activated the emergency button transmits, all other users receive an audible alert,
indicating that the person transmitting was the one who activated the emergency.
Additionally, the display will change from ID:[number] to EM:[number] to indicate this.
Only one emergency may be active at a time. The originating user may reset the
emergency state, or it may be reset by a system dispatcher.

Selecting Channels and Zones

Channels and Zones are how the specific channels the radio uses are stored.
When the radio powers up, it displays the Home channel and zone. Zones can store
any number of channels, and are generally organized by the agency or purpose of the
channels. Changing between zones always resets the channel to the first channel in
that zone. When a user is on the last/first channel or zone, and goes up/down, they
will roll over to the first/last channel or zone. For example, if you are in zone 1 and go
down a zone, you will end up in the last zone in the radio.

Scan Operation
Users may activate Scan by pressing the soft-key set to [Scan]. Once Scan is
active, the radio will receive on any channels in the current Scan List. Scan Lists are set
on a per-codeplug basis. Users may move between scan lists by pressing the Scan
Select [Sn Sel] soft button. For more information on which channels are in scan lists,
please contact your System Administrator.
