Quarterly Grading
How assignments are graded depend on a number of factors. I have established
these guidelines to make actions related to assigning grades a predictable
process.
50% assessments (Tests)
50% Classwork
Labs / Reports
Quizzes (2 quizzes per week expected)
Classwork (Starters, etc.)
The purpose of Classwork
Classwork may be used as:
 An opportunity to practice skills or concepts learned
 An opportunity to collect new knowledge
 Demonstration of internalization of learning
 An exercise to demonstrate application of skills or knowledge learned
 A means of expanding new learning of a previously learned concept
Cheating
How would you feel if the nurse who was caring for someone close to you
cheated on her nursing tests? What if the pharmacist who prepares your
medicine paid someone to take his classes because he had something else to
do?
For the purpose of my classes, I define cheating as acting dishonestly or unfairly
in order to gain an advantage. The term cheating applies when a student offers
or uses resources that take the place of knowledge or learning.
Students are responsible for controlling the integrity of their work. Do not loan or
share your papers with other students. Take measures to protect your papers
and answers. For open-book assignments, students may not share notes. Do
not offer or request others to take tests for you.
Grading Policy

Students with demonstrably identical papers will be assigned a failing score,

regardless of which student was receiving help, and which student was giving
help. Students observed giving or accepting help on assignments will be scored
similarly.
