This instruction manual has been produced to help the installer to understand the safe and proper
way to assemble the J-SAFE Big Base Freestanding Temporary Edge Protection System.

Clauses relevant to the correct installation of J-SAFE Systems .

Competence
It is important that the operative has the ability to carry out the installation without
harming the health or safety of themselves or anyone else and the ability to recognise an
unsafe situation arising out of what he or someone else is doing- and act on it.

Medical Conditions
It is important that the installer does not suffer from a medical condition that could affect their
safety whiclt erecting, dismantling or during normal use of the system.

Compliance
It is the Hirer’s responsibility to ensure that the equipment is erected and used in accordance with
its design function.

Safety during Installation

The installer should be equipped and trained to use a suitable Work
Restraint or Fall Arrest System before working on open edges to erect
this J-SAFE System.

If you are in doubt please consult J-SAFE where a suitable system can
be proposed.

Step 1

Open the clamp arms until the are spaced adequately to fit over
the structure.

Step 2

Tighten the wing nut by hand until it grips the structure and remains vertical.

Step 3

Tighten the clamp to the structure by hitting the wing nut

with a hammer.
Ensure that the clamp remains vertical.

Step 4

Insert the Post into the post holder.

Repeat the installation of Clamps and Posts at

maximum 2400mm centres.

Step 5

The mesh barrier is installed onto two posts by lifting the top
horizontal surface over the posts and sliding it down so that the posts
retain it at the top.
The vertical; mesh face is always positioned on the inside of the posts.

Barriers should always be lifted by two persons.

Step 6

The second mesh barrier is

installed onto the second post
and will sit on the post and
directly on top of the end of the
first barrier.
At the other end it will insert
over the post and subsequently
the third barrier will sit on top of
the end portion of the second
barrier.

Step 7

Wrap a 9mm nylon cable-tie around the Post and the vertical
mesh of two barriers just above the barrier toe-board and pull
until tight.
Repeat this action on every post .
