The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia lies at the furthermost part of southwestern Asia. It is bordered by the Arabian Gulf,
United Arab Emirates and Qatar in the east; Red Sea in the west; Kuwait, Iraq and Jordan in the north; Yemen and Oman
in the south. As a result of a subtropical high-pressure system, the Kingdom is generally hot in summer and cold in winter
where rains fall often.
INFORMATION Flag of the Kingdom : It has a green background inscribed in the middle with the Islamic
testimony (Shahada) “La Elaha Ella Allah; Mohammed Rasul Allah” (There is no God but Allah;
GENERAL
Mohammed is the Messenger of Allah) is written in an Arabic calligraphic. Beneath it is an Arab

sword, the handle of which is turned to the direction of the flag’s mast. The Flag of Saudi Arabia
must not be hung at half mast or touch ground or water in respect of the Shahada written on it.
National Emblem : The national emblem of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia consists of a palm tree
on top of two crossed Arab swords. Swords symbolize strength, stamina and sacrifice while the
palm tree symbolizes vitality, growth and prosperity.
Currency of the Kingdom: The currency of Kingdom is the Saudi Riyal which is gold-plated,
convertible and divided into 100 Halalas. The exchange rate is 3.75 Saudi Riyals per one U.S dollar.
The official holidays in the Kingdom are as follows :

• Weekend holidays: Friday and Saturday.

Upon receipt of your work visa and Client approval (where applicable), P&C Team (HR) will liaise with you in booking your
mobilization flight to KSA. Travel arrangements can begin once your work visa has been issued. Please liaise with the
MOBILIZATION P&C Team for any assistance required. The biggest national airlines are Saudia, Flynas and flyadeal.
The following details will be required:
1. Point of origin/departure (for air travel)
2. Relocation preferred travel dates (this will also be negotiated with your Line Manager)
3. on timeline after considering the notice periods, holiday, etc..
Once finalized, you will receive your work visa and air ticket a few days prior to departure. It is imperative that you carry
your work visa with you to present at both your departure airport and at the arrival airport in KSA on arrival.
 Your Preparation and Research
Moving to a country like Saudi Arabia can be an overwhelming process for someone who has never lived in the Middle
East or an Islamic country. There are a number of websites which have been designed to provide an enormous amount of
support to expats, often having frequently asked question sections as well as on-line forums. Blogs are also a great way
of familiarizing yourself with people’s experiences and what you and your family are likely to face.

It is very important that you understand what to expect before arriving in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. We
recommend you do as much research as possible. Having a greater understanding of what life will be like will help

TAWAKKALNA/ MUQEEM  Tawakkalna App:
Tawakkalna application allows you to enter closed and busy areas such as restaurants, malls and all other attractions.
REGISTRATION Once you arrive in to KSA, you are required to download and activate the app within 8 hours or stepping into public. You
can activate it through your border number (handwritten) that is provided by the passport control officer. Those who are
fully vaccinated are encouraged to register on Muqeem to receive their immune status on the Tawakkalna app. The
immune status remains necessary to enter offices, some public and private buildings, airports and public transport
vehicles.

 Muqeem Registration:
Muqeem” service allows organizations to review its resident workers data and complete their transactions online,
anytime, and anywhere. (To be done atleast 3-4 days prior to your KSA arrival)
Documents required : Ticket, Vaccine certificate and Visa details.

All new starters at EllisDon are enrolled into the Company medical insurance scheme after completing the medical
MEDICAL INSURANCE
declaration form to complete their enrolment into the medical insurance policy. The Company’s medical insurance
provider will send you an information pack and accompanying medical cards for yourself and all dependents who are
resident in country. The 2 Insurance companies with EllisDon are
1) Allianz (International coverage) 2) Tawuniya (Local coverage with Direct billing facility)
All visitors and foreign employees working in the Kingdom must have private medical insurance. Employees on
temporary work visas are covered by the Middle East medical insurance plan (Allianz), however when visiting a
hospital/clinic, payment must be made up front and will be reimbursed by the insurance company. Please ensure you
have documented evidence of the treatment that you have had to guarantee easy reimbursement.
Once the Iqama has been issued this will be converted to EllisDon’s medical insurance plan (Tawuniya). You will then be
able to present your insurance card when seeking medical attention and will not be required to pay up-front. Once you
receive your Tawuniya insurance, please download the app and fill in the details to get a digital copy of the card.
Please Note: Whilst medical insurance may be arranged prior to your arrival in the Kingdom - cover is effective from the
moment you pass through Immigration in the Kingdom – in other words, entry must be made. This applies to employees
and any resident dependents alike. It is not possible to insure family members under sponsorship who have not made an
initial entry into Saudi Arabia.
If you have an Iqama, your medical insurance card will be asked for and, on production, will be accepted for settlement.
The medical provider will have its account paid directly by our insurers.
Please note that For Allianz Reimbursement, you can go visit any reputed hospital in KSA for your medical check, pay and
claim for reimbursement for which a non KSA bank account is required.
Approximate time taken for reimbursement is 3 - 4 weeks. 5

MEDICAL INSURANCE
Depending on your level certain medical facilities are determined and available to access, this will be advised to you upon
commencement of your employment.
If you require urgent medical attention, or have been admitted into hospital, please inform either your Line Manager,

 Steps for Medical Reimbursement under Allianz Insurance:

 Fill the claim form (available with the P&C) with the required details along with the medical
practitioner/specialist/therapist signature and stamp (as required).
 Preserve the Copy of the Invoices, proof of payment and a copy of the prescription in case any medicines were
prescribed from the hospital/clinic. Mail these along with the claim form.
 You can submit the claim via their Health app or portal : https://www.allianzcare.com/en/myhealth.html
You can also email the claim to their member services team (email : claims@allianzworldwidecare.com).
 If you visit a non-contracted provider and they charge more than what they consider to be reasonable and
customary, there may be a shortfall in the amount reimbursed to you. We cannot confirm if the charges are
reasonable and customary until the invoices are sent to for processing.
 You have access to the portal (https://www.allianzcare.com/en/myhealth.html) , where you can see your policy
documents, make and track your claims and view our network of hospitals. For any questions you can mail them on

Process for New Job-offer: (Through agents)
DEGREE ATTESTATION There are 04 attestations required in the entire process - HRD, MEA, Saudi Cultural Attaché (SACA) and Saudi
Embassy. The degree certificate has to be attested from the State HRD office, which is done after HRD office verifies
it from the concerned University and one more verification has to be done by Agency directly from the University to
obtain Original verification letter from them (in offline mode) or Online verification on 'Docswallet' (if University has
online verification module), which is further submitted to SACA.
FOR IQAMA
Start with HRD attestation and at the same time we can initiate the verification process. After completing HRD
attestation, the degree gets attested from MEA. When both HRD/MEA attestation and verification is done, agency
can submit the original degree along-with Offer letter, Visa approval, affidavit and university’s verification letter to
SACA for the attestation. Once the attestation is done from SACA, agency can finally submit the original degree to
Saudi Embassy for the last attestation.
Checklist for SACA and Saudi Embassy attestation: (NEW JOB)

2. Original Job offer-letter from the employer with correct job-title as per VISA, the same offer-letter should be

 Pre-Arrival checklist before Entering KSA:

Before you set off for Saudi Arabia to join ELLISDON, please make sure that you have the
documents mentioned below.
1) Passport with Valid Visa.
2) Medical Insurance papers.
3) Muqeem registration.
ARRIVALS
4) Download Tawakkalna app on your smart phone.

 Airport Arrivals :
Once you land in Saudi Arabia at King Khalid International Airport, you need to abide by the local laws, rules, regulations
and disciplinary requirements. For example, smoking is prohibited in the airport premises and a single violation may
cause you an on-spot fine of SAR 400. If you are coming to KSA for the first time on a visa, you need to join one of the
queues leading towards ‘First Time Visa’ counter (towards the left-hand side of the arrivals hall).
Do not change queues randomly and on your own. Follow the instructions given by the Immigration Staff at the airport. If
in doubt, request help from the staff who are generally very friendly and helpful. Upon reaching the counter, your finger
prints will be scanned and your passport will be stamped with ‘Entry’. Make sure that the Immigration staff writes an
Entry Border number on your passport. (In case you are re entering KSA on a different Visa, make sure that the
emigration officer is aware about it)
You will also have your photograph taken – this picture will be same one that is used for your iqama, driving licence etc.,
so smile for the camera!

 Transportation :
Your transportation will be arranged with you prior to your mobilization date. One of our ED collegue will take you to your
hotel or respective accommodation, which will be communicated to you prior to your departure along with the collegue’s
mobile number. Taxis are also readily available at Riyadh airport. In case you take a taxi, do keep your receipts in order to
claim your expenses. On the day to join work, EllisDon will arrange your pick up to office only. Further on, the employee
will manage on their own. P & C staff will always be there to guide you.
SETTLING IN
 Permanent Accommodation:
Once you land in KSA, EllisDon will provide you with 2 weeks of Hotel accommodation. Post 2 weeks of their relocation,
the employees have to arrange their permanent accommodation on their own. For your reference a list of
Compounds/Hotel Apartments have been listed at the end of the document. Contact P&C team for any information or
assistance required to ease out your search.
 Telephone Networks :
There are a number of mobile telephone networks in KSA. Once you switch on your mobile upon arrival in KSA you should
be able to connect to one of the networks and be able to contact the driver (regarding your arrival). You may also connect
with the available Wi-Fi networks. Various telephone networks are available in KSA, like STC (Saudi Telecom Group),
Mobily, Zain and Bravo Telecom. It’s advisable to purchase KSA Sim card at the Arrival counter by showing your Passport for
validation.
 Expat forums:
Starting a new life in any country can be fraught with uncertainty. We know how it is when a new country and new culture
can seem somewhat overwhelming and that’s when an expat forum can come in handy. Here are three such sites full of

It is mandatory for all expats that arrive in Saudi Arabia must have an iqama medical test before they can get their Iqama
MEDICAL TEST FOR card. So, the Government serves the purpose of national health security. Efada - Saudi Arabia is an authority which works
similarly like Gulf Approved Medical Centers Association (GCCHMC) to generate medical reports under Gulf Health
Council.
Documents Required:
• Original passport
IQAMA
• Two passport size photographs having a white background.
• The expatriates applying for agriculture profession iqama must submit the Schistosoma Test certificates with the
Visa application.
• Sudan Citizens especially, must bring Meningitis Vaccination certificates. In case of unavailability, “Safa Abha
Medical Center” partakes this medical facility to check and issue the certificate.
• Fees for Iqama : Sar 200
Our P & C co-ordinator will assist you for the medical at the health center.
After verifying the documents, you will be asked to pay the fee for the Saudi iqama medical test and they also require
your phone number on which you shall get your medical report intimation through Efada.
The expats may collect the documentary medical proof within two days. However, with the growing digitalization, the
Saudi health commission uploads the medical test reports on Efada - Saudi Arabia and the MOH portal online.

FIRST DAY @ ELLISDON

 Reporting to Work at ELLISDON offices premises:
The office timings are from 8:00am-6:00pm, Sunday-Thursday. The address for ELLISDON offices is at exit 6, Building
No.2135 | Northern Ring Rd | Al Taawun Dist | Riyadh | Zip Code 12477 on Damam Road.
The time required to reach the office from allocated projects in a vehicle is around 20-45 minutes and the fare for using a
taxi service ranges from 20 to 50 Riyals.
Upon reaching the Office, please proceed to the P&C Help Desk. The staff will refer you to the relevant officials for your
joining and onboarding process. And will arrange your further iqama, medical insurance etc. as per company standard
policy.
Once you are in office, you will be guided through a structured orientation / joining process before your placement in the
assigned department.
Please bring your passport and 4 passport photos with you on your first day, along with any other documentation
previously requested.
 Dress Code :
The rule of thumb in Saudi Arabia, dress modestly no matter where you are. Where you are heading will determine the
level of modesty required, unless you are in your house – there you can wear whatever you like! There are no restrictions
on what shoes you are or aren’t allowed to wear in the Kingdom. Just keep in mind that you will be required to take them
off when visiting a mosque.
At work, it is preferred that you dress in formal clothing and on Thursdays you could dress in smart clothing.

sectors such as the General Directorate of Passports and Civil Affairs. Absher app
for Visitors is helpful to register vaccine and for Iqama holders, it helps in applying
for permanent Visa for family, booking appointments with the government sectors,
purchasing and selling your own vehicle along with its authorization, issuing exit re
entry for family, extending visit visa for family, final exit visa for family, updation of
ABSHER APP
family passport details and many more services with government.
All iqama holders including dependents of expats and visit visa holders can create an
Absher account, make registration, and activate them.
To create an Absher account.
1) Open the link https://www.absher.sa/
2) Click on “Individuals “.
3) Select “English” language.
4) Press the “New User?” icon.
On the next page, you need to fill the Absher account registration form entering the
following details.
ID Number: Iqama Number for expats and border number for visitors.
Mobile Number, Username in English, Password, Email address etc..
Check the box to confirm the terms and conditions.
Press “Next” for account registration.
Enter the verification code received on mobile.

Congratulations, you have successfully created the account.
Now proceed to activation of the account. 13

3) Banks: In case you want to activate your account without fingerprints, you can do it through your bank account through
Internet banking, ATM machine, or else Phone banking. Once you finish you will receive an SMS about activation. 14

 Iqama:
The Iqama is your official identification document in Saudi Arabia. This document is proof that you are legally
employed (or attached to someone who is). You should always carry your Iqama with you as it serves as both your
residence and work permit.
The ID will include your name, photo, nationality, and date of birth, as well as your nationality, employer, and 10-digit
ID number. Once you have arrived, Ellisdon shall complete the remaining paperwork within 90 Days from your arrival
to obtain your Iqama. During this time Ellisdon, P&C Team shall assist you for another medical exam at an approved
medical center which includes blood and urine tests, chest x-ray, and perhaps even provide a stool sample. The
IQAMA
Medical results will be available online and you will receive an SMS on your registered number. Unfortunately, if you
test positive for HIV, you will be deported. You can check the status of your Iqama medical here

You will need to show your Iqama to do almost everything in the Kingdom. This includes the following:
• Opening a bank account
• Renting an apartment or a car
• Getting a SIM card
• Signing up for internet access
• Identifying yourself when requested
Once your Iqama expires, all banking accounts will be frozen (until proof of renewal is presented)
* If your dependent is above the age of 18 and male, he will not be granted an Iqama. Daughter’s iqama will be
granted until they get married.
* You must show proof of legal marriage to obtain a spousal Iqama (no common-law partners or

girlfriends/boyfriends permitted)

QIWA REGISTRATION
The HRD ministry has launched the QIWA platform for expats working in KSA. Every expat working in KSA needs to
register his account with the QIWA platform to get benefitted from 85 different services.
Here is how to register
• Open the website https://auth.qiwa.sa/en/sign-up.
• Enter your Iqama Number.
• Select your Date of Birth.
• Enter the verification code sent by Absher to your mobile.
• Signup by entering your email and creating a password.
On the next page;
• Enter your mobile number with which you want to register
• Click on the “Send” button.
• Enter the confirmation code received on your mobile.
That’s it, you have successfully registered with the Qiwa platform.
The system will load your data and let you access the platform. Make sure to check your email received from the Qiwa
platform and verify your email account to avail the range of services available. List of Services available at Qiwa platform

Page 17 of 108 GOSI is Saudi Arabian government agency that provides social insurance services & it
offers online services such as e-payment & SMS services. GOSI stands for The General
Organization for Social Insurance. It is a Saudi Arabian government agency that provides
GOSI REGISTERATION social insurance services. All Saudis and residents need to register for GOSI
.Registering with GOSI can help you in several ways. It can assist you in tracking all the contributions deposits your employer
makes. It also allows you to print your GOSI salary certificate.
To do so, follow the steps below:

1.Log in to the GOSI website
2.Select the beneficiary type. It will give you three options to choose from: contributor, establishment, or hospital.
3.Then, click on “Register.” and fill in the required data, which would include your
a) Iqama number , b) Phone number, c) Password and d) Email address
4. Click on the “Proceed” button. You will then be sent a verification code on your mobile number.
5. Lastly, enter the code you have received on the next page. This will complete your online registration with GOSI.
How Much Does GOSI Take From Your Salary?

GOSI percentage is the amount deducted from the wages of Saudi workers and the amount that is payable by the employer.
The contribution GOSI takes is fixed at 18% of your contributory salary. However, the employer has to pay 9% of it, while the
contributor pays the other 9% to GOSI.
GOSI Salary Certificate

You might need your GOSI salary certificate for different reasons, such as
1.When applying for a permanent family visa
2.Presenting your official records in the labor office
3.In maintaining your employment record in Saudi Arabia
To print the certificate, you have to log in to your GOSI account. Log in with your Iqama number and password. On the home page,
Select the “Certificates and Letters” option. Next, select the “release certificate” option. Your certificate will be emailed to the

account holder at the given email address for printing.

An engineer by profession, can apply for an Iqama only after following the process of registration with the Saudi
Council of Engineers and getting their certificate and ID card requirements, getting Yaqeen verified, getting
authorization letter and renew of the Saudi Council of Engineers membership.
SAUDI COUNCIL
REGISTRATION Saudi Council of Engineers Requirements.
1. Attested degrees
2. Letter of Introduction from the employer stating monthly gross salary, name as per joining date, Iqama number
with a request that they want to change the profession to engineering.It needs to be attested by the Chamber of
Commerce of the city where your employer is registered.
3. Signature of the Authorization Letter
4. Copy of iqama, copy of passport., copy of the entry visa page and Personal photographs.
Saudi Council of Engineers Registration Process
The first step in the registration process with the Saudi Council of Engineers is to scan all the requirements for the Saudi
Council of Engineers and upload them on the SCE website. Link :

You will have to attach Copy of Iqama, Employment Letter, Authorization Letter, Copy of Engineering Degree Certificate
duly attested by the Saudi Embassy, Engineering grade sheet, Passport Copy, Picture (200X200 pixels).
The total fee for the Saudi Council of Engineers Registration is SR 1250 for engineers for a period of 3 years. After
uploading the documents, the Saudi Council of Engineers will send you an email or SMS to pay SR 500 to process the
application for registration. You can pay this amount through SADAD 18

Once the fee is paid, Saudi Council of Engineers will issue you a ticket number against your request. However, it is always
better to call them after paying SR 500 and ask about the next step you need to take. In this way, there are chances that
your application will be reviewed soon.
SAUDI COUNCIL
If all the documents submitted to the Saudi Council of Engineers for the members are fine, they will send you another
REGISTRATION SMS or Email to deposit SR 750 as membership fee through SADAD.
1. Temporary Membership
Once you have paid this amount, the Saudi Council of Engineers will send you a temporary membership number .
If you log in to your account on the Saudi Council of Engineers website, you will find your membership type as
Engineer with Non-Engineering Iqama . However, the status of Jawazat and Yaqeen verified in your profile will
remain as RED .
2. Permanent Membership
Provide the temporary membership number to the HR or Government Relations Officer of your company and the rest
of the process will be done by him. You will be notified by the MOI after your Iqama profession has been changed.
After receiving this SMS, you need to go to your account in the Saudi Council of Engineering website and click on the “
Update Jawazat ”. Saudi Council of Engineering will send you another SMS/Email to pay for SR 100.
Once you pay this amount, your Jawazat and Yaqeen or Yakeen status in Saudi Council of Engineering account will turn
GREEN i.e. Yaqeen verified. Now you would be able to notice your profile as Engineer with Engineering Iqama.
Your temporary membership will turn into permanent membership with the verified yaqeen within 1-2 months and
you will receive your Saudi Council of Engineering membership card after that.
If you want to apply for the permanent family visa of your family, you will have to go to Saudi Council of Engineering
branch and ask them to issue you an Istiqdam letter. 19

Every expatriate engineer and technician needs to renew the Saudi Council of Engineers
(SCE) membership for Iqama renewal. Please follow the steps mentioned below.
• Login to your Saudi Council of Engineers account, scroll down until you see the
“Renew Membership” button. A new page will open where you need to
click on the “Add New Request” button.
SCR RENEWAL
• On the next page, you need to enter 3 details;
1. The duration for which you want to renew your SCE membership.
2. Iqama Number.
3. Iqama Expiry Date.
The fee for the renewal of the Saudi Council of Engineers membership is;
Engineers: SR 250/year; Technicians: SR 200/year.
• After submitting this information, the SCE website will open a new page containing
your request number for the renewal of membership.
• Wait for a couple of hours and log in to your account again.

Go to the messages section where you will find a SADAD number to pay for the
renewal of membership. (SCE sends an SMS to your registered mobile number containing
the SADAD Bill number to make the payment)
• Check your account again after a while of making the payment, you will find a
message that your request for the renewal of the Saudi Council of Engineers
membership has been accepted.

How to renew Saudi Council of Engineers membership if you have the temporary membership?
The renewal is possible in only two scenarios;
• Change the Iqama profession.
• Provide the degree/certificate relevant to your profession.
SCR RENEWAL
Convert the temporary SCE membership to permanent
In case you have got the degree/certificate relevant to your profession, you can convert
your temporary membership of the Saudi Council of Engineers with the normal one by :
• Log in to your SCE account and click on the option to “convert temporary
membership to permanent”.
• Click on the “Add New Request” button. Upload the degree/certificate required
to convert the temporary SCE membership to permanent.
• Once the request status changes to “completed“, it means that the Saudi Council of
Engineers has converted your temporary membership to the normal one.
• Now you need to request for the renewal following the procedure explained above.
The SCE will issue a SADAD number to pay for the renewal of membership.
Your membership will be renewed after a while.
Please note: If your request to convert temporary membership to the normal one is
not accepted after a few days, you can always book an SCE appointment and visit them.
It is worth mentioning that Iqama renewal is possible, 3 months before the Iqama
expiry date and while your SCE membership is valid. 21

You can apply for a permanent family visa in Saudi Arabia either online or by filling an Istiqdam form, paying the fee, and

The facility to apply for family visa through online is available to people with a few selected professions only like Doctors
registered with the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties, Engineers registered with the Saudi Council of Engineers and

Post Application Process

VISA
After submitting the application, the Absher system will give you an
option to print the application. Sign it and handover to the HR of your
company to sign and stamp. The company will attest the application
through the Chamber of Commerce online for SR 30 within 30 days of its
submission. After the online attestation, you have to visit the chamber of
commerce to initiate the application within 30 days of its submission
against the SR 30 fee again. Wait for a few days (roughly 3 to 4 days) for
receiving SMS from MOI about approval of your family visa. Or keep
checking online as per below link. https://visa.mofa.gov.sa/Home/Index
Once you got the SMS, double check on your Absher Account to ensure
that status appears as Approved and also VISA number is appearing.
After visa approval from MOI, you still need to wait for another few days
(again roughly 3 to 4 days) for your visa information to get updated in
MOFA website, Remember that visa can't be processed back in your home
country before MOFA update. Once you get the visa number, you can send
the application to your home country for visa processing. 24

Family Visit Visa - Application process :
Depending on your iqama profession you may process visiting visas for your family members (Mother, Father, Children, In
laws, and grand parents) however family visit visas do not grant the applicant the right to work or reside in Saudi Arabia.
FAMILY VISIT VISA Visiting visas are generally valid for a one or 3-month period and are renewable. Family visa application costs will be
handled by the employee.

Once your family visa is approved, send a copy of your application or the number of your application to your family
member and let them contact their nearest agency for further processing in the Saudi Embassy within your home
country. Documents required for this process are original passport of visa applicant, your iqama and passport copy and 4
passport size photographs. In case of a married sister, provide an authorisation letter from their husband and in case of
your mother or father-in-law, provide marriage certificate and copy of the passport and iqama of the wife.
If the application is rejected: Should your application be rejected, simply re-apply. Sometimes it may take up to 4
applications before you receive an acceptance, or you may receive an acceptance with your first application.
Overstaying on a visitor’s visa is illegal in Saudi Arabia, you as the sponsor of your family will be held responsible for this
and a fine will be imposed even if they stay for an extra day without following the family visit visa extension process.

 Type of Exit Re Entry Visa
EXIT RE ENTRY VISA There are 2 types of Exit Re Entry visas in Saudi Arabia namely:
 Single Re-entry visa (ERE)
 Multiple Re-entry visa (M ERE)
Single Exit Re-entry Visa allows you to exit and then re-enter Saudi Arabia only one time within its validity.
Multiple Exit Re-entry Visa lets you exit and re-enter Saudi Arabia as many times as you want within its validity.
Once you have your Iqama and wish to exit the country for any reason, send in an email to the P&C team requesting for
an Exit Re entry permit prior to at least 5 working days preferably the start of the week. In case you have active exit re-
entry multiple for 6 Months and expired, It will not be reissued until you inform about your next trip. Once renewed, the
permit will be valid for the next 6 months for the employee.
In case of family, it ill be a single- entry permit with 60 days validity.
While you are on Business Visa with multiple entry, It will be valid up to a year. The employees can reside in the kingdom
at a stretch up to 90 days after which you have to exit Saudi Arabia border and get back whenever you wish to. You can
have multiple exits and re entry throughout the year validity.
Note : When you exit the country for a Visa run and later re enter on your valid Residence Visa, make sure you confirm
this to the officer at the immigration counter, so that they stamp you on the correct Visa.

 Opening a Bank Account:
Opening a bank account in Saudi Arabia can be a tedious process and can take a few weeks. However, things are sure to go faster
if you have all the documents you need. To open a bank account in Saudi Arabia you will :
BANK ACCOUNT • Your original passport plus a copy.
• A copy of your iqama or visa page proving you are a legal resident of Saudi Arabia.
• Salary certificate (with COC approval) which you can request the P & C team.
• Some banks may ask for a copy of your tenancy agreement in order to establish your residential address.
• Between two to six passport-sized photographs in a specified format (check with the bank what their required format is).
• A filled-out and signed bank account application form.
It is mandatory for employees to open a Saudi bank account and transferring money electronically via the internet from Saudi
Arabia to any bank in the world is normally a straightforward process once all the registration formalities have been attended to

Driving in Saudi Arabia is still a challenge for new expats in the country, a little patience, persistence, and common sense
goes a long way
Saudi Laws and Regulation for getting a driving license are applied for both genders. The only difference is male students
DRIVING LICENSE need to go to the Dallah Driving School (preferred), and females need to attend the Saudi Driving School in Prince Noura
University for Girls.
Employees on Business Visa/ Tourist Visa can drive in Saudi Arabia on a license issued in countries such as the EU, USA,
Canada, Australia, New Zealand or on an international driving permit, for up to three months from date of entry / last
entry into Saudi Arabia. An application for a Saudi license can be made without having to take a driving test. After
obtaining an Iqama you will have 3-months in which to obtain a Saudi Driving License (this is mandatory).
Driving licenses issued by any country in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) are acceptable for use within Saudi Arabia.
Licenses are normally valid for 2 or 5 or 10 years.
Some licenses from some developing countries may not qualify for automatic acceptance and you should check
beforehand. The Saudi embassy or consulate in your home country will be able to confirm whether a license is valid.
If your country from which your Driving License is issued qualified, then you shall proceed to the traffic police with the
following documents to transfer and obtain your new KSA license:
1. Application form of issuing the driving license. (Take prior appointment through Absher and pay 400SAR through
your bank account – Government payment – Traffic)
2. Medical test report (eye & blood test) which can be done at an approved hospital.
3. Original driving license.
4. An official translation of the license into Arabic (in case not in Arabic language)
5. Your Iqama copy. ( Carry your Original Iqama)

Drivers of other nationalities will need to complete a written and practical test before they can obtain a Saudi driving
license.
The first step is to pay the SR400 license fee through your bank account (keep the receipt).Before applying for the driving
DRIVING LICENSE test, you should have the following documents:
1. Completed application form, which is available from driving schools
2. Original Iqama (residence permit) plus one photocopy
3. Original passport plus one photocopy
4. Letter of introduction from ELLISDON
5. Photocopy of a valid visa
6. Original valid foreign driving license plus a certified translation by an approved company
7. Four (4) colour passport photographs (4cm x 6cm)
8. Blood group and eye test (medical test in certain hospitals)
9. Receipt for payment of license fee
At the driving school you would have a three-hour tuition class and computer test follow. If you pass, you then take a
simple driving test. If you pass that, a 10-year license will be issued on the spot.
All drivers must have a Saudi license. Once issued it has a ten (10) year validity period or less each year cost SAR 450 up
to 10 years. Drivers must carry their license and vehicle ownership papers at all times whilst driving, along with another
form of ID (Iqama), which must be shown if requested. Heavy fines are imposed if caught without correct paperwork.
The application process for a license is complicated, and the P&C Help Desk can provide you with the necessary support
and assistance. The General Department of Traffic can also be contacted for further advice.
It is possible to rent a vehicle in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia whilst on a temporary work or business visa. An

In May 2022, Saudi Arabia's Zakat, Tax, and Customs Authority (ZATCA) has clarified in a statement the conditions with
regard to buying a car from abroad and the ways of bringing it into the Kingdom.
ABROAD
ZATCA clarified that anyone wishing to buy a car from abroad should pay attention to certain conditions.
The year of the car's manufacture is an important condition, as cars manufactured before 5 years are not allowed to be
brought into Saudi Arabia.
In addition, the vehicle that will be purchased must be in accordance with the Saudi specifications and standards, as well as
to be conforming to the fuel economy standard.
With regard to bringing the car into Saudi Arabia after its purchase, ZATCA has explained that customs duties will be
imposed at the rate of 5% of the value of the vehicle.
ZATCA added that a value-added tax of 15% will also be calculated on the total value of the vehicle, along with the customs
duties.
The authority revealed the information when an individual asked it about the possibility of buying a car in Bahrain and
transporting it to Saudi Arabia.
ZATCA said the car’s specifications can be confirmed by communicating with the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality

7. A third party or comprehensive insurance.
* The maximum number of cars an expat can own is 2.

In the next step to transfer car ownership online in Saudi Arabia, the seller will create a
request to sell his vehicle through Absher. In order to do that;

Choose Calendar Type: Gregorian.
Select the buyer’s date of birth.
Enter the IBAN of the account number of the seller.
The car sale proceeds will be transferred to the account.
Select the region where the vehicle is to be sold.
On the next page, you need to accept the terms and conditions of creating a request to transfer
car ownership in Saudi Arabia online using the Absher account. The buyer has only 1 hour to accept the request.

Step 3: Accept the Car Ownership transfer request:
In the next step, the buyer will accept/reject a request to transfer car ownership through Absher within one hour of
request creation. In order to do that;
VEHICLE TRANSFER Log in to your Absher account

Click on the “Services” tab under Vehicles.
Select “Vehicle Ownership Transfer” from the online services.
Scroll down and select “Buyer” from the options.
In the next step, Accept or Reject the car transfer request.
Enter the IBAN number of the buyer’s bank account.
The amount will be credited to this account in case the deal is canceled. Select the region where the vehicle is to be
sold.
Now agree to the terms and conditions to transfer car ownership in Saudi Arabia online using the Absher account. The
Absher system will display a bank account number to make the payment. This is the bank account of Absher. The funds
will not be released to the seller at this point in time.
The buyer has only 72 hours to make the payment.
The payment will not be processed during the non banking hours.
The car transfer fee of SR 230 is already added to the price.

Step 4: Make the payment.
The buyer needs to make the payment to the
designated bank account within 72 hours of
VEHICLE TRANSFER accepting the request to transfer car ownership in Saudi Arabia online using the
Absher account. The payment will not be processed during nonbanking hours.
First Name of the beneficiary: ________.
Last Name of the beneficiary: ________.
Step 5: Delivery of the Vehicle.
After the successful transfer of funds, the buyer and the seller will wait for an SMS from Absher.
The seller will log in to his Absher account and deliver the vehicle to the buyer. The buyer will receive an OTP in the
SMS which the seller has to enter into his Absher account to complete the delivery. Make sure you give the OTP to the
seller only after receiving the delivery of the vehicle. After the delivery, the payment will be released to the seller from
the Absher account.
That’s it, you have successfully completed the online process to transfer car ownership in Saudi Arabia through the
Absher account.
Step 6: Collect the Istimara.
In order to collect Istimara after transferring the car ownership;
Take a Muroor appointment from Absher with the purpose .
Visit the traffic police station with your Iqama to Collect the new Istimara.
You can also request postal delivery of the new Istimara.
In order to do that, scroll down a bit and; Click on the
“Request Postal Document Delivery“.
Press the “+” button and select your Saudi national address.
Confirm the phone number delivery request.
You will shortly receive an SMS containing a link to make payment for the delivery service. 37

Transfer of Car ownership from Bank:

BANK TRANSFER & In case you have leased a car from the bank to your name in KSA, you can transfer ownership following this procedure.
• Valid Fahas.
• Buy the Insurance in your name.
• Pay off all the dues to the bank.
INSURANCE
• Submit all the above-mentioned required documents for the transfer of car ownership to the bank.
• Pay the transfer fee i.e. around SR 525 to the bank.
• Get the Istimara within 2 weeks of submitting the request from the same bank.
* A Saudi can own as many cars as he wants. However, an expatriate living in Saudi Arabia can own only 2 cars at a time.
* In order to transfer the car ownership to your son, you will have to follow the same procedure as explained above.
• A wife can drive the husband’s car in KSA without transferring the title. Make sure to register her as an additional driver
while taking the insurance.
Motor Insurance:
Motor insurance, including third party cover, is available in Saudi Arabia. Driving in Saudi Arabia can be hazardous: wet
weather, drifting sand, sandstorms and sometimes camels crossing roads on highways when travelling from city to city can
all make driving dangerous at any time of year. It is mandatory to acquire Insurance from the Financial institutes.
Taking a Car outside Saudi Arabia:
If you do not own your car outright (i.e., you have obtained a local bank loan, or purchased a car using hire-purchase), you
will need to gain permission from the creditor in order to take the vehicle out of the country. A form (Istamara) will need
to be issued / purchased for each country you are travelling to, each time you wish to travel. The same rule applies for hire
cars.

Procedure of car registration
If car is imported by road, you will get 2 papers from Saudi customs border after which you will have to complete the
below mentioned steps.
 SASO (Saudi Arabia Standard Organization) inspection- need appointment and sadad payment of 300sar.
SASO post inspection, will send email to customs.
 3 papers from Customs- you need to visit the Zakat, tax and customs authority in Riyadh dry port to get that paper.
You need the customs papers (received from import border).
 MVPI inspection- you need the Riyad dry port customs paper and payment of 200sar.
 Take insurance for the car- online or you can visit any insurance agents (many shops near Rawdah Traffic department,
who can do so).
 Book appointment for traffic police after a sadad payment of 400sar. The manager there will enter the car details
onto their system and will generate the number. Post that they will print the car isthimara and will give the number
plate.
 Fix the plate onto the car- lots of workshops nearby can do that. 40

Places to visit in Riyadh :
DISCOVER RIYADH The centre of Riyadh and the birthplace of the state of Saudi Arabia is the area of Al-Bathaa, in which
visitors will find fascinating traces of the old city. At its heart lies Al-Musmak Fortress, a stunning example
of desert architecture, whilst surrounding it is the King Abdul Aziz Historical centre and the souks that give
a taste of the ambiance of yesteryear.
If you’re thirsting for more cultural sites then head to the Al-Dira area which is home to many traditional
buildings such as the Royal Palace. On the outskirts of the city is the ancient town of Ad’Diriyah.
In complete contrast, the neighbourhood of Olaya is home to gleaming skyscrapers. This is where you will
find the bulk of Riyadh’s high-end hotels, restaurants and shopping malls, chief among them being the
Kingdom centre and the Al Faisaliah tower which stand like sentinels guarding the city.
In the beautiful old town you can discover hidden treasures of days gone by and admire traditional as well
as modern architecture. Head to Al-Musmak Castle to learn more about Riyadh's history or enjoy a day of
shopping in the Granada Center.

Riyadh Kingdom center :
Take a trip to the top of the Kingdom’s second tallest building and enjoy the
view from the 56 metres long sky-bridge. Al-Mamlka Tower is 302 metres
DISCOVER RIYADH high and has 41 floors and is owned by a prince in the Saudi royal family.
National Museum:
The National Museum has a display of interactive exhibits that reveal the
fascinating history of the Arabian peninsula and the introduction of Islam.
The museum takes you through the stories in a chronological fashion with
help of movies, artefacts and maps.
Camel Market:
Watch the Bedouin showing off their beasts while haggling furiously over
the price. Located approximately 30 km outside of Riyadh, this is the
largest camel market in the region. Prepare for a pretty strong smell.

City of old Diriyah:

Old Ad’Diriyah is the ruins of the Saudi dynasty’s first capital which was
founded in 1446. Ad’Diriyah is today an interesting place to visit in order to

the Saudi State.
Al Murabba Palace :
This beautiful palace set in lush green gardens, provides an insight into the
lifestyle of the Saudi Royal family. Get a glimpse of the reception salons,

Al Musmak castle :
Built around 1865, this fortress played an important role in the history of
Riyadh. The recapture of the city happened here at the turn of the century. The
sand coloured brick constructing with its four towers is a popular tourist
attraction and provides a glimpse on the past of Saudi Arabia. The word
musmak means "strong, fortified".
