Coca-Cola India is the Indian version of the renowned Coca-Cola

Company, the Consumer goods firm known across the globe. The
Coca-Cola Company started operating in India in 1956. Coca-
Cola is India’s largest beverage maker and is estimated to have
around 40% share of the country’s branded beverages market.

For Coca-Cola overall, India is currently the sixth-largest

market after the U.S., Mexico, Japan, Brazil and China. While
Quincy’s mandate to his India team — led by T. Krishna
Kumar, president Coca-Cola India and Southwest Asia — is to
move India one notch up in the foreseeable future, his long-term
vision is for India to be among the company’s top three markets
globally.
The brand’s history began when John Stith Pemberton, the
inventor of the beverage, turned to his book accountant – Frank
M. Robinson, to help him brand his creation. Frank immediately
suggested the simple and mark-hitting ‘Coca-Cola’. The
marketing strategy created a boom, and one year later Frank
came up with the first logo – the handwritten name of the
company.

The handwriting has proved to be an eternal element, as it has

come through the numerous logo modifications unchanged
except for the colour. The logo of Coca-Cola is the same with
the attached country name, for India.

Coca-Cola came to India in the year 1956. Since India had not any
foreign exchange act, Coca-Cola made huge money operating under
100% foreign equity. Indian foreign exchange act was implemented in
the year 1974 during Indira Gandhi time. The foreign exchange act
stated that foreign companies selling consumer goods must invest
40% of its equity stake in India in its Indian associates. Coca-Cola
agreed with investing 40% foreign equity but stated that they would
still hold full power in technical and administrative units with no local
participation allowed.
Coca-Cola India - Mission

Coca-Cola’s mission statement is “to refresh the world in mind,

body, and spirit, to inspire moments of optimism and happiness
through our brands and actions, and to create value and make a
difference.” Coca-Cola is a company that focuses on leaving a legacy
wherever it operates. The company highly values making a difference
in individuals and communities, while at the same time letting them
enjoy the great tastes of its products.

OBSERVATION AND LEARNING

Management is all about practical implications of the theoretical

concepts. In lieu of this, EIILM KOLKATA on 25 JAN 2023
planned a visit to Coca-Cola Happiness DIAMOND
Beverages Pvt Ltd, KOLKATA, WB. The visit was organized
with the objective of giving them an insight into the production
and operation processes at the industry and to make them aware
about the connection between the theory taught at the institute
and its practical application.
The bus left the Campus by 8:30 am with a total of 60 students
accompanied by the Faculty-coordinators (Prof DR
SARMISTHA DAS) the group reached the plant by 10:00 am.
After giving a brief of the rules and guidelines to be followed,

LEARNING

Industrial visits are an essential part of the academic curriculum

in most of the Graduate and Post-graduate courses. Being a
part of interactive learning, such educational visits give students
a major exposure to real working environments along with a
practical perspective of a theoretical concept relevant to their
domain.
Intending to go beyond classroom learning, the industrial tours
contribute a lot in holistic student development by letting
students learn about the current trends in the market, the future
scenario of the industry and the new technologies that are being
applied in the industry.

Given below are a few significant that we learn from the

industrial tours:

Opportunity to interact with Industry Experts:

Industrial visits provide students with a chance to meet industry

leaders, professionals, entrepreneurs, policymakers, and
corporates who share their wisdom, learning, and experiences.
These interactions are useful to students in their career and help

21 | P a g e
INDUSTRIA VISIT
COCA-COLA

them in developing leadership qualities, management skills, and

learn about the industry working. Industry interaction is also
helpful in updating the curriculum when there are significant
changes in prevalent technologies; also, the faculty members get
to know about the industry’s latest trends.

Learning experience:

Educational tours to industries provide an opportunity for

students to see and experience real workstations, plants,
machines, systems, assembly lines, and interact with highly
trained and experienced personnel. This practical learning
experience is necessary for students who have to date studied
theory only and are unaware of a real production plant’s daily
workings. The students learn about company policies in terms of
production, quality, and service management and acquaint
themselves with the working of instruments during the course
curriculum.

Enhanced employability and PPO’s:

Industrial visits play a crucial role in increasing networking

opportunities while building a good relationship with
companies. For students, such trips open many doors for
corporate training and internships, which in turn increase the
students’ employability. Oftentimes, many students are offered
PPO’s as a result of fruitful interaction between the company’s
HR and students.

COCA-COLA
DIAMOND BEVERAGES PVT LTD

Management Lessons:

During the industrial visits, the students get an opportunity to

experience how professionals live, learn about various
management concepts like Just In Time or Lean manufacturing
and how they are put into action. It is not easy to manage
hundreds of skilled and unskilled workers at the same time and
meet the stringent quality norms and production targets of the
company. How managers, production engineers, employees
work in tandem to achieve a common target is a management
lesson in itself. And therefore, such exposure during the
industrial visit is quite beneficial for MBA students.

Interpersonal skills enhancement:

Industrial trips help students to enhance their interpersonal,

communication skills, and teamwork abilities. These visits have,
time and again, proved to be an excellent platform for
networking as the students interact and connect with the
corporates via official social media platforms like Facebook,
Linked In, and Twitter. These educational/ industrial trips also
help the students identify their learning towards a branch and
decide their future work areas like marketing, finance,
operations, IT, HR, etc.
