3.0 Ground Water:
‘The depth at which groundwater is struck dui
table was ascertained subsequently in the completed borehole.
“The depth of water table inside the driled hole was measured by a “bell sounder” method
28 per IS 6995:1973. After competion of cling of bore holes up tothe desired depth, the
bore hole was thoroughly flushed and washed by clean water At tha time eagm shoul ha
taken to ensure the stabity of sides of bore holes.
‘Then bore hole was measured by increasing the probe of bell saunder with wire and
‘measuring tape. When the bell sounder touched the water level, it wes gave a Plop' sound
‘and measured the water level by measuring tape attached with i
During dling of bore hole ground water able was investigated and was found as below.

5.0 Slope stability analysis of cuttin,
[Ate ch-3500, the depth of cuting slope is 38.0 m, the cuting slope 1:15, a8 per the drawing
‘provided by the client,
‘As per the RDSO guidelines GE: G-1, the stability of euting slope has ben checked by
software GEOS,
6.0 Analysis of cutting using GEOS Software:
‘AS per the provided cross section, the total height of cutting is given a8 many layers, and full
height of the cuting is analyzed by using GEOS, sofware, The software (GEOS) is used to
Perform slope stability analysis (embankments, earth cuts, anchored reining structures, MSE
walls etc). The sip surface is considered as circular (Bishop, Felleniws / Petterton, Janbu,
Morgenstom- Price or Spencer methods) or Polygon,
6.1 GEOS Software:
+ In analysis, choose the intial sip surface using the coordinates of the center (x.y) and its
‘radius by clicking on the interface to enter three points through which the lip surface passes,
‘+ Incohesive soit rotational sip surfaces occur most ften. These are moceled using circular
‘ip surfaces, This surface is used to find the ertical areas ofan analyzed slope, Fornon-
Cohesive sols, an analysis using a polygonal slp surface should alo be performed in order
to very the slope stati,
‘After chooting the intl ap ourface, choose “Bishop” asthe analysis method arden tthe
|ype of analysis to "Optimization". Then perform the actual verification by eliking on “Analyze”
‘+ Optimization consists of finding the cxcular slip suface withthe lowest stabity he erica sip
surface. The optimization of circular sip surface inthe slope stability program evaluates the
lentie slope and is very reiable. This way we will gt the same resul fora crtical slip surface
‘even with inital ip surfaces
‘+ The stabilty analysis for the ertical slip surface using “Bishop” evaluation method is found
‘atsfator if Factor of safety is found to be greater than 1.4

CONCLUSION:
‘+ The slope stablty analysis has been caried out by considering following cases. By Using the
software GeoS for euting slope (H-36.0 m) of Chalange-3500 with cutting slope of 11.5.
> CASE-A: With fatter the top 60 m depth in 1V-2H with 6.0 m berm at that depth and
Fest(H=20.0) ofthe depth as per the given cross-section slope in 1V1.SH, the cuting slope
is stable and gives the FOS 1.48 which is greater than the minimum requirement FOS.
value 0.
‘+ CASE-2: If we consider the full depth(=36.0 M) of cuting slope as fer given cross-section
in 1V-1.5H then the cutting slope is also stable, but the obtained FOS is determined to be
less than the above value and found to be 1.43 which is greater than the minimum
requirement FOS valuet 40
‘+ Hence the cuting section is stable forthe cuting slope of 1V-2H (or op 6.0 m depth) and also
(0M) with 1V:1.SH with respect to the properties of eub go as mentioned in
7.0 SUGGESTION:
However, to stable the cutting slope folowing may be suggested:
‘+ Retaining wal or Gabion wall of appropiate height may be constructed atthe toe ofthe bottom
‘ope to provide lateral suppor tothe vertical slope,
+ Effective steps need to be taken to avert any eventuality of ingress of surface water into the
sting, This can be accomplished by provision of catch water drain or berm drains.
‘+ For backfill of retaining wall GP, GW, SW materials should be used with 600mm fiter media can
‘+ Berm drains shall be constructed at each berm of slope to protect the slope from ran cut and for
smooth drainage of water. Catchment drain shall be provided for surface drainage.
+ If necessary, sol naling process may be adopted with geo-net to protect he slope and suitable
‘drainage system shal be provided forthe flow of water from the top ofthe sop
+ The slope stability canbe improved by turing because the roots the plant makes the sol stable,
'+ Care must be taken to prevent the slope faire during the execution of work =
