Guidelines for workload allocation to PhD Full Time scholars

a) Identify the number of full time PhD scholars within your department.
b) Allocate 4-6 hours workload per week for each PhD scholar as per clause d, e, f.
For such scholars, payment will be provided as per the University rules. This
policy will be applicable for the June 2022 batch onwards. For Other batches,
based on the need, the department can decide.
c) Distribute the workload evenly across the week to ensure a balanced schedule.
d) PhD scholars in the 3rd year and above shall be assigned the laboratory and
independent course teaching of the Department.
e) 2nd year PhD scholars shall be assigned Department/Office support works such
as invigilation duties, documentation, office assistance. The Centre for Research
is not in favour of engaging 2nd year PhD scholars in the teaching process
(laboratory/theory sessions). If any Department wishes to assign teaching
assignments to 2nd year PhD scholars, a prior approval from the Centre is
mandatory.
f) 1st year PhD scholars shall not be assigned any work in the Department. If there is
any requirement of assigning work to them, it may be assigned only after
completing the PhD coursework and with the prior permission from the Centre.
g) Please ensure that PhD scholars are not assigned any personal work by the
supervisors and HODs.
In order to monitor the workload allotments to scholars, the following measures have to be
taken.

1. The research scholar has to submit the additional workload information to the
Centre through a Google form entry before processing the bill approved by
the HOD.

2. Scholars are expected to submit an annual workload report to the Centre

signed by the HOD and Dean.

3. From the department side, submit the work allotment sheet to the office of
Centre for research for processing the payment.

I request the department to implement this workload allotment policy promptly, ensuring
that all the full time PhD scholars in your department receive the dedicated time required
for their research activities. This step will undoubtedly contribute to their intellectual
growth and help them progress smoothly in their academic journey. Thank you for your
cooperation in this matter. Should you have any questions or require further clarification,
please do not hesitate to reach out to me.

Best regards,
Director, Centre for Research
