"A Study of Interpersonal relationships of working Women in relation to

Occupational Stress, Job Satisfaction, and Job Involvement”.

ABSTRACT
The research was intended to determine the relationships between interpersonal
relationships/skills, occupational stress, job satisfaction, and job involvement
among the working women belonging to N.C. R. The design of the present
research was causal research design in which the effect of interpersonal-
relationships/skills on Job Satisfaction (JS), Job Involvement (JI) and
Occupational Stress (OS) was assessed. There were one independent variable
and three dependent variables. 
Description of Variables:  
Independent Variable: Interpersonal Relationships/skills
Dependent Variables: 
1. Job Satisfaction (JS)
2. Job Involvement (JI)
3. Occupational Stress (OC)
In all 250 women employees of IBM Noida constituted the sample of the present
study. Data in this research was gathered with the help of the following
standardized Psychological scales.
1. “Occupational Stress Index” (OSI) propounded by Dr. A K Srivastava
and Dr. A P Singh, Dept. of Psychology, BHU, Varanasi and published by
Manovaigyanic Prakashan Sansthan, Varanasi was used to assess
occupational stress.
2. Job Involvement Scale: The job involvement scale developed by Zaki
Akhtar & Udham singh and published by National Psychological
Corporation, Agra was used to assess job involvement
3. Job Satisfaction Scale: Developed by Misra, Tiwari, and Pandey,
Published by Agra Psychological Research Cell, Tiwari Kothi, Belan Ganj
Agra was used to assess job satisfaction
4. Interpersonal Relationships/skills Scale (Self Developed) was used to
assess interpersonal relationships/skills among the working women.
The Main Findings of the study are as follows:
Interpersonal relationships and skills have a positive relationships with job
involvement.
Interpersonal relationships and skills have a positive relationships with
employment contentment.
Interpersonal relationships and skills are inversely related to occupational stress.
Job satisfaction has a positive correlation with job involvement.
Job satisfaction is inversely related to occupational stress.
Job involvement is inversely related to occupational stress.
Interpersonal relationships/skill is a good predictor of job satisfaction among
working women.
Information sharing dimension of interpersonal relationships/skills is a reliable
predictor of Job satisfaction among working women.
The “Caring attitude” dimension of interpersonal relationships/skills is a reliable
predictor of Job satisfaction among working women.
The “Help and Cooperation” dimension of interpersonal relationships/skills is a
reliable predictor of Job satisfaction among working women.
“Giving Values to others” dimension of interpersonal relationships/skills is a
reliable predictor of Job satisfaction among working women.
“Praise” dimension of interpersonal relationships/skills is a reliable predictor of
Job satisfaction among working women.
Interpersonal relationships/skills is a reliable predictor of job involvement among
working women.
Information sharing dimension of interpersonal relationships/skills is a reliable
predictor of job involvement among working women.
The “Caring attitude” dimension of interpersonal relationships/skills is a reliable
predictor of job involvement among working women.
The “Help and Cooperation” dimension of interpersonal relationships/skills is a
reliable predictor of job involvement among working women.
“Giving Values to others” dimension of interpersonal relationships/skills is a
reliable predictor of job involvement among working women.
“Praise” dimension of interpersonal relationships/skills is a reliable predictor of
job involvement among working women.
Good interpersonal relationships/skills among women employees will lead to
lesser feelings of occupational stress.
The higher level of the “Information Sharing” dimension of interpersonal
relationships/skills among women employees will lead to lesser feelings of
occupational stress.
The higher value of the “Caring attitude” dimension of interpersonal
relationships/skills will lead to lesser feelings of occupational stress among
women employees.
The higher value of the “Help and Cooperation” dimension of interpersonal
relationships/skills will lead to lesser feelings of occupational stress among
women employees.
The higher degree of “Giving Values to others” dimension of interpersonal
relationships/skills will lead to lesser feelings of occupational stress.
The higher value of the “Praise” dimension of interpersonal relationships/skills
will lead to lesser feelings of occupational stress among women employees.
Conclusion: Nowadays organizations are facing challenges of growing
competition in the business environment. To remain in the competition and to
achieve organizational excellence it has become essential to maintain a higher
degree of job involvement among employees along with job satisfaction and
lesser feeling of occupational stress. The study has shown feeling of
occupational stress has a negative influence on job involvement and job
satisfaction. The women employees are more susceptible to acquire
occupational stress for their dual role-one as employees and second as a
mother. How to deal with the problem of stress and to maintain job satisfaction
and job involvement among employees is the biggest challenge for the
organizations. The present investigation demonstrates that interpersonal
relationships/skill is a strong variable to deal with occupational stress, job
satisfaction, and job involvement.
