Purpose of module
• The purpose of the module is to provide introductory learning in health policy and
management, in a manner suitable for new managers or those who have not had
formal management training.

Educational approach
• Our educational approach in this module is to provide you with more in-depth
information health policy and management.
• We will build on what you learnt in the module Learning in Public Health where you
learnt about how policies are developed and the basics of health systems.
• By now you have learnt about several international organizations that are important
to public health practitioners. In this module you will use material that was
developed by AMREF
• Each week we will introduce you to one of the topics in this module.
• You will also make use of your Personal Development Plan (PDP) that you
developed in Learning in Public Health so make sure that you have this document
handy.

Resources
• We will be using AMREF’s document on Governance, Leadership and Management
for Health System Strengthening.
• This document and all the other reading material such as journal articles will be
provided to you.
