VERB

Verb or verb according to oxford dictionary Verb is a word used for action, state or accurance. In
other languages, verb or verb is a word that describes the subject itself or shows an event and
circumstance.

So,verb (English verb) is a word that functions to show the action of a subject, indicating an event
or circumstance. This is one of eight part of speech.

Verb Functions (Verbs) in Sentences

Verb or verb in a sentence is used to identify or explain the behavior of the actor (subject in the
sentence) or explain events and circumstances.

1.Transitive dan Intransitive Verb

Transitive verb is a verb followed by direct objects that accept the action of the subject,
while intransitive verb is not because the action that the subject does does not involve direct
object.

Transitive Verb

Information:

direct object (can be noun, pronoun, infinitive (to + verb), gerund (verb + -ing) or another
construction that acts as noun)

Intransitive Verb

Information:

Some of the verbs in the list above can also function as transitive verb, such as: become,
cost, live, run, set, and stop, but with different meanings.

2. Regular and Irregular Verb

Regular verb is a verb in the form of past tense (verb-2) and past participle (verb-3)
obtained by adding a suffix -ed or -d to the base form (basic form of the verb). Unlike the regular
verb, the past tense and past participle forms of irregular verb are more varied.

Regular verb (regular verb) is a verb in which the past tense form and the participle part
of the majority are obtained by adding -ed or -d to the base form.

Ireguler Verb

Imformation :

Irregular verb (irregular verb) is a verb whose past tense and participle parts do not follow
the general rule of adding -ed or -d to the base form.

1. He never comes late to class.


2. Where do killdeer birds lay their eggs?
3. I lend my car to him sometimes.

3. Action and Stative Verb

Action verb is a verb to declare that a subject is carrying out an action or to declare that
something happens, while the stative verb is not to express an action but to state a condition that
does not change or tends not to change.

4. Finite dan Non-Finite Verb


Finite verb is a verb that is influenced by tense (present or past) and agreement
(conformity) with the subject in terms of person (first / second / third) and number (singular /
plural), while non-finite verb is not.

The verb group includes finite verb, namely: transitive and intransitive verb, action and
stative verb, linking verb, and auxiliary verb. The non-finite verb includes: present participle (-
ing form), past participle (-ed form), infinitive (to + verb), and bare infinitive

5. Linking Verb

Linking verb connects subject of sentence with its description.

6. Causative Verb

Causative verb to show that a subject makes someone or something do an action. Let,
make, have, and get are some of the most popular causative verbs.

1. He won’t let me see his phone.


2. I had my house renovated last week.
