Chapter 1 Preface

APC870 digital cinema audio processor is audio processing equipment for digital cinema. The system adopts
latest way to decode multiple digital cinema audio format, and to process the output digital audio signal using

DSP, thus to meet the requirement of 6 channel (or 8 channel or 16 channel) of digital cinema stereo: L, C, R, Ls,

Rs, SW, BLs, BRs ,L Low, L Mid, TLS, R Low, R Mid, TRS, C Mid. It is very easy to set the speaker cabinet
system, and is very suitable for various cinemas.

The suitable PC operation system: Windows2000, Windows 2003, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7.

1. Caution
☆ Please read the manual carefully and keep it for future reference.

☆ Please use the correct voltage.

☆ Power supply: AC 220V±10 ﹪, 50~60Hz. Please check the local voltage is correct.
☆ Please keep good ventilation. Temperature range 0~40℃,humidity range 20﹪~80﹪.

☆ Keep the device away from heat source. Please don’t use broken power cord or pile other objects on it.

☆ Please do not open the device. There is no part for user to repair.
☆ Keep the device away from rain and moisture.

☆ Keep your hands dry while pluging or unplugging the power cord.

☆ Keep the device well grounded to prevent from shock.


☆ Use a dry soft cloth for cleaning.

3. Function and features
☆ 25 Pin D connector for input and output supports 1.3K and 2K projector.

☆ Supports bypass and two way and three way operation modes to meet the requirement of large/mid/small

cinema projects.
☆ 8 channel AES-EBU digital inputs.

☆ 8 channel analog signal inputs.

☆ 8 channel 31 band graphic EQ for test.


☆ 8 channel independent HF/MF/LF delay control, surrounding delay control.

☆ 14 channels have pink noise generator and the connectors to input pink noise which are convenient for

installation and test.


☆ The software can be programmed for system setting.

☆ The input signals can be inter-switched. Each channel has fade-in/fade-out function.

☆ Can control the gain and crossover and EQ of 8 digital cinema channels.

☆ Offers the space to save and copy the parameters.

☆ Convenient main interfaces; the operation mode of multiple windows; multiple functions and channels

Chapter 2. Front Panel

1). Monitor speaker: used to monitor the signal of left, right, middle, left surrounding, right surrounding channel.

2). LCD: used to display the output volume level.

3). Digital 1 (input)

Press this key and the key LED lights up. The digital input signal outputs after being amplified.

4). Digital 2 (optical input)

Press this key and the key LED lights up. The optical input signal outputs after being amplified.

5). Digital 3 (coaxial input)

Press this key and the key LED lights up. The coaxial input signal outputs after being amplified.

6). Analog (input)

Press this key and the key LED lights up. The analog input signal outputs after being amplified.

7). Nonsync (input)

Press this key and the key LED lights up. The non-synchronic input signal outputs after being amplified.

8). MIC (input)

Press this key and the key LED lights up. The microphone signal has been connected.

9). Monitor output

Press this key and the key LED lights up. The signal output to monitor speaker.

10). Mute

Press this key and the key LED lights up. The system has been muted.

11). USB interface

Used to connect with PC and set the audio signal processor and upgrade the system.

12). Main

Used to control the output volume. It should be set to 4.2 position in normal condition.

13). SD port

Insert a SD card into the port. APC870 can save data into the card and read the data in the card.

14). Power switch


Used to turn on/off the power supply.

Chapter 3. Rear Panel

1). Fan

Used for cooling inside.

2). Power input

AC 220V±5 %,frequency 50/60Hz.


3). OPT IN

Used to connect with optical signal.

4). Coaxial input connector

Used to connect with coaxial signal.

5). NON-SYNC INPUT (connector)

Two RCA connectors are convenient to connect with CD/DVD or other dual channel audio signal source. L

is used to connect with left channel or left surrounding channel. R is used to connect with right channel or

right surrounding channel.

6). DIGITAL INPUT

It supports 4 channel AES-EBU digital movie signal input of 1.3K & 2K digital projector. Refer to the

following figure for the pin connection.

7). ANALOG AUDIO INPUT

8). AUDIO AESA-TOP

It is the same as that of 6 which is mentioned above, but select one of the two input connectors.

9). MIC gain

Used to adjust the microphone input gain.

10). ETHERNET ACT LINK

Used to connect with ETHERNET.

11). MIC input

The balanced microphone XLR input, Pin 1 ground, Pin 2 +, Pin 3-.

12). Main audio output two

Balanced 25 Pin output connector.

Refer to the following figure for the pin connection.

Chapter 4 System Connection

1. The system connection as the figure below:

2. Operation
1). Input the movie audio signal input the equipment and select the relative output channel. Adjust the gain to

match the equipment sensitivity.

2). Connect 8 channel speaker cabinets. The speaker cabinets can be 8 full range speaker cabinets, or can be 8

pairs of 2 way/3 way speaker cabinets. Check if the wiring is correct.

3). Use the USB cable to connect with PC. Open the software to adjust the system parameter.

4). If the user is satisfied with the setting, please save the data and copy it. User can make comparation after

misoperation.

Chapter 6 Software Operation

The software of APC870 digital movie audio processor needs to installation.


Double click the Audio icon to operate the software.

It displays the installation interface.

Click NEXT to setup the installation


Then click NEXT till it displays CLOSE, then click CLOSE to finish the installation.

At this time, it displays the icon 。

Double click this icon and it displays the operation interface as below.

1. Connection with PC
Use USB cable or network cable to connect the equipment with PC. Turn on the equipment and start the software.

The software will automatically find and connect with the equipment. If the connection can not finish

automatically, user can connect manually. Select the connection way first.

1). USB port connection

Connect PC with APC870 USB port. Open the APC870 software. Select the USB connection way as below:

Click Connect. The status indication turns red into green. This means the USB connection successful.

At this time user can use PC to control APC870.

2). Network port connection


Connect PC with APC870 network port. Open APC870 software. Select TCP/IP connection as below:

At this time it detects the Device Address is local PC IP.

APC870 defaults the IP IS 192.168.0.7, so change Device Address to 192.168.0.7.


Please make sure the PC IP must be changed to be same as that of APC870.

Click Connect. The status indication changes red into green. This means the network connection is

successful.

At this time use PC to control APC870.

Caution: during operation, do not unplug the connection cable, otherwise the software does not work.
Solution: close the software and reconnect the cable, then restart the software.

2. Menu function

1). File

The file menu includes open, save as, recently, quit as the figure below:

Open: read the parameter document.


Save as: save the current parameter as document to other position.

Recently: check the document used recently.

Quit: close the program.

2). Tools

Copy the GEQ parameters of one channel to another channel.

3). About: it shows the software version number.

3. Controls and operation
1). Input Select

: Select the signal input channel and set output signal level, and display output signal level

simultaneously.

a. use the mouse to click to select the input channel.

b. pull the scroll bar to change the signal level. Accuracy: 0.1. click MUTE to mute.

c. It displays the output signal level of each channel at real time as the figure below:

2). Shortcut function menu

Click the corresponding button to enter the function setting.

a. Preset

: Display the user files and the operation of the files.

: recall the parametric files.

: store the parametric files which have been set.

Power on mode:

: this is the power on mode.

Mute Duration:
: Set the time between mute and play.

: the time from mute to play, range: 0.2S~5S.

: the time from play to mute, range: 0.2S~5S.

(2) Input Settings:

: Input channel setting.

Select input channel:

Global Audio Delay: range: 0 ~ 250mS.

Mute Main Bsl/Bsr Output Pins) :enable the mute of left back surround/right back surround.

Fader Preset:

: enabled.

Channel Assignment

Left /Right/Center means left/right/center channel input. LFE means the LF input channel. Left Surround

/ Right Surround means left channel surround and right channel surround separately. Back Srnd Left

means back left channel surround. Back Srnd Right means back right channel surround.

When the decoder is used for two way application, Left /Right/Center channel input signal is crossovered.

Left-1 and Left-2 mean two way left channel. Right-1 and Right-2 mean two way left channel. Center-1

and Center-2 mean two way center channel.

(2) Output Setting:

Click , and it displays as below:

Click CONTINUE to enter into the output channel setting (at this time the normal audio output

disappears and the monitor LED flashes ).

Level:

Mic Level: display the microphone input level.

Singal Generator Enable:

: open the needed output channel.


Signal Generator Enable:

Off: turn off the output.

100 Hz: output 100 Hz sine signal.

1k Hz: output 1k Hz sine signal.

10k Hz: output 10k Hz sine signal.

Pink Noise: Output pink noise.

Output Channel Level: : adjust output channel level.

Range: -12dB ~ +12dB

Channels:

: channel setting.

Active Channel:

Select the output channel to be set.

Bass:


: level range -15dB ~ +15dB frequency range 20Hz ~ 22kHz.

Treble:


: level range -15dB ~ +15dB frequency range 20Hz ~ 22kHz.

Left/Center/Right channel have the setting as below:

High:


: level range -15dB ~ +15dB setting range 8kHz ~ 22kHz

There are three types to be selected:Butterworth Bessel Link/Riley.

Mid:


: level range -15dB ~ +15dB setting range 2kHz ~ 8kHz

There are three types to be selected:Butterworth Bessel Link/Riley.

Low:


: level range -15dB ~ +15dB setting range 20Hz ~ 500Hz

There are three types to be selected:Butterworth Bessel Link/Riley.

Active:

: open the crossover function.

: parametric EQ.

When select L/C/R channel, click EQ and select LFE/Ls/Rs/Bsl/Bsr, there are the setting as below:

Q/gain/frequency can be changed:

~22000Hz, accuracy 1.
Freq: adjustable frequency range: 20Hz

Gain: adjustable range -15.0dB~15.0dB,accuracy 0.1.

Q: adjustable range 1~12.0,accuracy 0.1.

En:enable

Set each frequency level: adjustable range -15.0dB ~15.0dB,accuracy 0.1.

Software Update:

: update the software.
