DR42 Speed Sensor

Speed measurements not affected by slip and slide!

Diversity of speed sensors to include a multiplicity of speed detection techniques has

long been known to be the optimal way to mitigate challenges associated with rotational
detection such as wheel slippage and wheel slide which negatively impact precision and
reliability of speed determination. While doppler radar is proven as the optimal solution
for this problem, up until now doppler radar was often perceived as an expensive and
unreliable solution on trains leading the industry to utilize less robust methods such as
accelerometers and complicated algorithms to attempt to detect and mitigate such
slip/slide issues.

Now Deuta America Corporation introduces the DR42, a low cost direct replacement for
conventional rotational sensors. Utilizing a standard pulse output compatible with
existing sensor types, and incorporating Deuta’s decades of experience and tens of
thousands of radar installations around the globe, the DR42 finally brings a mature,
reliable, and cost-effective means to mitigate wheel slip and slide allowing for more
precise and reliable speed determination than previously possible. Optionally combined
with Deuta’s sensor fusion “SDU” algorithm unreliable and imprecise speed
determinations can be a thing of the past.
