PROCESSING
Recommended Cure Cycle

Initial Cure Cycle Cure at 325oF for 120 minutes minimum.

Cure pressure will depend on part geometry, desired cured ply thickness, and cured resin
content.

Post Cure Not Required – But can be used to increase elevated temperature properties.

Bagging Procedure

A schematic profile of the bagging procedure used for laminates is shown in Figure 1.

Figure 1 l Bagging Diagram Utilized in Vacuum Bag/Autoclave Laminate Manufacturing

General Cure Information

MX 4926N prepreg can be processed using several methods including autoclave and heated platen press.

In Figure 1 above, dry glass tows and bleeder fabric assist in the removal of gases. Slower heating rates and higher
pressures can further assist in the removal of volatile compounds/gases, though this may also increase resin flow. Pre-cure
de-bulking (vacuum compaction) is recommended to promote consolidation.

Recommended Consumables
Table 5 below provides a list of consumable processing materials recommended for use with MX 4926N prepreg.

EXOTHERM
MX 4926N prepregs are reactive formulations which can undergo severe exothermic heat up during the initial curing process
if incorrect curing procedures are followed.
Great care must be taken to ensure that safe heating rates, dwell temperatures and lay-up/bagging procedures are adhered
to, especially when moulding solid laminates in excess of 10mm (0.4in) thickness. The risk of exotherm increases with lay-
up thickness and increasing cure temperature. It is strongly recommended that trials, representative of all the relevant
circumstances, are carried out by the user to allow a safe cure cycle to be specified. It is also important to recognise that the
model or tool material and its thermal mass, combined with the insulating effect of breather/bagging materials can affect the
risk of exotherm in particular cases.
