Wärtsilä Energy Business is leading the transition towards a 100% renewable energy future.
As an Energy System Integrator, we understand, design, build and serve optimal power
systems for future generations. Wärtsilä’s solutions provide the needed flexibility to integrate
renewables and secure power system reliability. Our offering includes flexible internal
combustion engine-based power plants, energy storage & integration solutions, as well as
gas to power systems.

Wärtsilä Energy Business is looking for an Application Engineer for the Energy Storage &
Optimization business. The role will be part of the Product management and Hardware
engineering team.

Preferred location for this permanent position is one of the Wärtsilä locations in Finland:
Vaasa, Turku or Helsinki.

What will you be doing?

As an Application Engineer, your work will focus on these responsibilities:

• Provide presales support to the sales, business development, and proposals teams
• Together with the sales and proposal organization, design and configure battery
energy storage systems including component selection, site layout, cable schedule,
auxiliary load estimation, battery sizing and augmentation strategy
• Be the interface between Hardware engineering and Product management in the
Area.
• Conduct cost benefit analysis to optimise system configurations and equipment
selection, assist in the development of product requirements, and collaborate in the
development of business cases for customers or internal development initiatives
• Develop and document methodologies and best practices to design and configure
energy storage systems
• Develop product technical documentation including application notes and input to
product manuals
• Provide customer feedback and market requirements back to the PM organisation to
further product development and portfolio management.

Requirements:

• BS or MS degree in Electrical or Power, Energy Engineering or similar filed of study


• Ability to work independently and within a team.
• 3-5 years of electrical engineering experience focusing in power systems and
renewable energy.
• Newly graduates can also be considered based on their respective merits.
• Preferable: Experience designing and configuring battery energy storage systems and
battery enclosures
• Ability to conduct energy studies and determine optimal resource mix and technical
requirements for such resources
• Knowledge of energy markets and different mechanisms power producers generate
revenue
• Proficiency with Autocad, MS office and optionally Python/other scientific
programming language
• Solving customer’s needs and issues
• Maintain positive working relationships with customers, peers, subordinates, vendors,
shop and office in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent communication skills
• Team player attitude internally and externally
• Willing to travel 40% of the time
