WARNING
Ionising radiation
X-rays should only be taken from the protected zone.

1 Introduction

1.1 Equipment required

A PC with one of the operating systems below:
- Windows 3.1
- Windows 95
- Windows 98(SE)
- Windows ME
- Windows NT
- Windows 2000
- Windows XP.
The CONF_SVC.EXE setup program with the corresponding files SETUP.INI, ED_HF.SVC
and TUBES.KS.
At least one RS232 interface on the PC (COM1-4). More recent notebooks frequently do not
have any serial interfaces so that a USB-RS232 adapter can also be used.
A serial cable connector (1:1, not a NULL modem)
An adapter of 9-pole SUB-D (female) on 2 x 5-pole jack

1.2 Preparation
Two RS232 interfaces are available, one in the generator (MP15 on ZST2) and one in the
control panel (MP15). An adapter and the serial cable have to be used to connect the 2 x 5-
pole interface plug of the MP15 on the ZST2 with the PC. Then switch the generator on. The
setup program can either be booted directly from the diskette, memory stick or any
subdirectory on the hard disc.

1.3 The SETUP.INI file

This file contains control data for the setup program:
- COM=1 (establishing the RS232 interface)
- Transfer_via_Desk=0 (if the setup PC is connected with the control panel)
- Reset_Desk_Baud=0 (sets the baud rate back to 38400 baud on the
control panel)
- baud rate=38400 (sets the baud rate; do not change)
- kyrillisch=0 (setup works with kyrillisch characters)

Operating Instructions 06220003-en_B01.doc

- „tube 2“
- „organ program“ excluding organ texts
- „setup filament“
- „setup kV control“
- „statistics“

The setup data of the control panel consist of the setup data of the dialog (settings menu):
- „control desk“
- „organ program“ exclusively for the organ texts

The setup data of the automatic exposure control consist of the setup data of the dialog
(settings menu):
- „AEC“

1.5 The TUBES.KS file

This file contains the setup data for 25 tubes.

If the value set here is not 0, the dosage is compared with the expected final dosage after 50
ms of radiation. An error message is generated if the measured dosage is less than the
calculated percentage.
For instance, if the operator operates on the assumption that the exposure can be no more
than 3 sec, then 50 ms are 1/60 of 3 sec. If 100% is divided by 60, you get a value less than
2. Therefore, 1% should be keyed in.

3 Annex

3.1 Transfer Data Display Space

The data received (decimal or hexadecimal) is displayed in the space during transmission to
the service PC. Only the number of bytes transmitted is displayed when they are transmitted
from the service PC to the destination (generator, automatic exposure control or control
panel).

3.2 Trace Grid

The trace grid sets the resolution of exposure curves (in steps of 62.5 µs).

3.3 Refresh
The trace grid has to be sent to the generator with Refresh (this function also deletes the
exposure curves).

3.4 Exposure Curves Display Space

The zone for displaying the exposure curves from the generator (high-voltage=UR, tube
current=IR, load current=IL).

3.5 Printer and Practice Systems

3.5.1 Introduction
The transmission direction from the control panel to the practice system does not follow a
protocol and can be received by any terminal program. The ASCCI data are transmitted to
the interface on the PC or printer are a normal sequence of characters finishing with ‚carriage
return‘ and ‚line feed‘. The optional counter direction from the practice system to the
generator follows the protocol described in document 0622-0002.
You can adjust the baud rate (300 to 57600) and stop-bits (1, 2) as per setup.
If the practice system is connected with the ‚G‘ plug on the control panel, please make the
following settings in the setup menu ‚settings -> device‘:
- select device 29 (patient system)
- enable device with the check
- communication channel: COM3 (identical with editor desk)
- routed to COM1 (channel to ‚G‘ plug on the rear side of the control panel)
- communication baud rate (such as COM_BAUD_38400)
- device types – special (such as Dig-Sys 1)

This forwards the generator data to the practice system through the control panel.
