Dewatering Plan

This dewatering plan is developed to address the water ponding issues experienced at Tanjung
Adang Site.

1. Observation
a. Water ponding at site with level recorded at 5.5mCD high at trial pits
b. Main ponding areas are at platform 10,14 and 18
c. Other ponding areas are at pockets of areas at platform 21,22 and at USM areas
d. Ongoing surcharge at platform 1-6, 7,8,9,19,20,23,24,25,26

2. Main issue and source

a. Very unusual observation to identify water ponding on reclamation area with sand material
b. Source of the problem suspected that water is blocked between the
 USM area which consists of clay material at a stretch of 300m
 and at south side where revetment and geotube (clay could silted up this area)
installed.
 surcharge removed platform at P10,14 and P18 with trial pits carried out to confirm.
Water appears in surface could be from heavy down pour and collected within the
circumference of surcharge identified in 1(d)
c. High water table recorded at 5.6mCD is above than the base level of road and drainage. The
condition impedes the construction of road and drainage at ROAD 2 and ROAD 3.

The picture below depicts the case.

3. Affect to the schedule

a. Heavy ponding water observed at platform 10,14 and 18 impedes the construction of road
and drainage at Road 3.
b. Same issue could take place at platform 1-6 and affects Road 2 construction and drainage
start

4. Early Approach

A few approach was taken to address this problem since early November 2022

a. Earth drains constructed at platform 21 to be connected to ESCP drains (dewatering was

slow and smaller earth drains fails to dewater platform 10,14 and 18)
b. Earth drains was constructed at platform 10 and 14 but collapsed due to high water volume
c. Decision was made to wait for the surcharge removal at platform 4 and 5 to create water
passage out of the waterlogged area.

5. Solutions

MMCE/ DPIK proposed the following solutions

a. Removal of surcharge at platform 4 and platform 5 to allow water receding to revetment
sections. Surcharge removed based on consolidation results of 90% achieved on 28 Nov
2022.
b. To construct subsoil drain crossing from Platform 18,14,10 and platform 4 and thereafter to
run parallel along revetment adjacent from platform 4 to platform 6 to discharge to sea.
c. Usage of diesel pump to dewater at platform 18, platform 14 and platform 10
d. Major withdrawal of water is derived from subsoil drain which designed to discharge 70% of
water and remaining 30% using pumps

6. Basis of Dewatering Calculation

The calculations are presented below.

a. Estimated water volume.

Main water ponding area is observed between platform 10,14 and 18 (surcharge
removal area)

The water volume is estimated for 6 panels which is P10,P14,P18, P4, P5 and P6

Area 60000 m2
(P4,P5,P6,
Each P10,P14.P18) panel is estimated with water
ponding volume of approximately 3150m3.
Water volume

Water level (Trial Pit) 5.1 m

Water table 3.7 m

Differences 1.4 m

Ratio of water/ sand 25 %

(assumption)

Water volume 21000 m3

2. Dewatering based on pump stations

Pump capacity 320 m3/hour

Effective capacity (0.1_) 25 m3/hour Based on the water permeability rate. (not
pumping capacity )
