DPWH Schedule of Minimum Test Requirements

(Some Items)

ITEM 100- Clearing and Grubbing


Tests: None
Paid: Trees Diameter = 150mm to 900mm
Non-perishable objects shall be cut-off not more than 150mm above the ground line
or low water table. Tress extending roadbed –cut 6m above.

ITEM 101- Removal of Structures and Obstruction


Tests: None
Pavement: broken – not exceed 300mm in any dimension

ITEM 102- Excavation


Tests: Same as item 103, 104 and 105, whichever is applicable

a. Roadway : - unclassified excavation


- Rock excavation : 150mm below subgrade

b. Borrow: - Approved materials

ITEM 103- Structure Excavation


If excavated materials are wasted, the volume involved shall be reported, so that quality
control requirements may be adjusted accordingly. Submit Project Engineer Certificate of Waste.

- Foundation Fill – 150mm, compact each layer


- Backfill, not more than 150mm thick

If excavated materials are incorporated into the work:

Tests: For every 1500 cu.m of fraction thereof:


1-G, Grading Test
1-P, Plasticity Test (LL, PL, PI)
1-C, Laboratory Compaction Test

For every 150mm layer in un-compacted depth:


1-D, Field Density Test

ITEM 104 – Embankment


-Shall pass a sieve with 75mm square opening & not more than a mass 15% will pass the
0.075 (#200) as det by AASHTO T11
Tests: For every 1500 cu.m of fraction thereof
1-G, Grading Test
1-P, Plasticity Test (LL, PL, PI)
1-C, Laboratory Compaction Test

PI = Not more than 6% as det. by AASHTO T90


LL = Not more than 30% as det. by AASHTO T89

For each 500 sq.m of each layer of compacted fill or fraction thereof, at least 1-
group of three in-situ density test. The layers shall be placed not exceeding 200mm
in loose measurement or based on the result of compaction trials.

Roadbed density: - Compaction not less than 95% as det. by AASHTO T99
Method C.
-Berm density : At least 90% mass of the max. density.

ITEM 105- Subgrade Preparation

Tests: Same as Item 104:

- Below Subgrade: Cut 150mm

Subgrade Tolerances (Compacted)


a. Level of Surface: +20mm & -30mm
b. Surface Irregularities by 3m edge: 30mm
c. Crossfall/camber: (+-) 0.50%
d. Longitudinal grade: (+-) 0.1%

ITEM 106 - Compaction Equipment and Density Control Strips


Tests: Same as for items 104, 105, 200, 201, 202, 203, 204, 205, 206 and 300

a. Compaction Equipment: 1. Sheepfoot grid roller = 45 Mpa


2. Steel-Wheel roller = less than 45 Mpa
3. Vibro steel roller = min. mass of 6 Tons
4. Pneumatic Tire Roller = 550Kpa

Density Control Strips: 335 sq.m


- Should not be less than 98% of the density of the laboratory compacted
specimen

ITEM 107 – Overhaul (Free Haul Distance = 600 meters)


Tests: None

ITEM 200 – Aggregate Subbase Course


Size: Max. Size passing = 2” -100% sieve shall be used & retained #200 sieve 12%
a. For fraction passing #200 sieve < 0.66 of fraction passing 0.425, #40 sieve
b. For fraction passing #40 sieve
LL ≤ 35%
PI ≤ 12 %

c. CBR value = 25% (Min.)

Subbase Tolerance in spread:

a. Thickness in layer ± 20mm


b. Level of surface +10mm, - 20mm
c. Surface irregularities by 3-m = 20mm
d. Crossfall or Camber: ± 0.30%
e. Longitudinal: Grade over 25m length = ± 0.10%

Amount of Asphalt to be added: 4 to 7 mass % of dry soil aggregate

B. Emulsified Asphalt:

1-Q, Quality Test for every 40 tons or 200 drums or fraction thereof

C. Mix – same as for Item 203


D. Compacted Base Course – same as for Item 203

ITEM 206 – Portland Cement Treated Plant Mix Base Course

Amount to be added: = 6 to 10 mass % of dry soil aggregate

A. Soil Aggregate
Tests: same as for Item 203

B. Portland Cement

For every 2000 bags or fraction thereof:

ITEM 207 – Aggregate Stockpile

Tests: Same as the specified Item No. of the Specifications ( Control of Materials)

ITEM 300 – Aggregate Surface Course

Tolerances:
a. Thickness of layer : + 15mm, -5mm
b. Level of surface: + 15mm, -5mm
c. Crossfall or camber: +0.2%
d. Longitudinal grade over 25m: +0.1%

Tests:
For every 300 cu.m or fraction thereof:
1-G, Grading Test ( sieve: 1” to #200)
1-P, Plasticity Test (PL, LL, PI)
LL ≤ 35%
PI = 4% to 9%

For every 1500 cu.m or fraction thereof:


1-C, Compaction Test
1-Q, Quality Test (Grading, Plasticity and Abrasion)

For every layer of 150mm of compacted depth/based on the results of compaction trials:
@ least 1-gourp of three in-situ density tests for each 500 sq.m or fraction thereof.

For crushed Gravel or Crushed Stone, 1500 cu.m or fraction thereof:


1-F, Fractured Face

ITEM 301- Bituminous Prime Coat


2 –types of cut-back asphalt: RC, MC @ 180 Degrees Celcius

Quantity: 1 to 2 L/sq.m

Tests: 1-Q, Quality Test for every 40 tons or 200 drums

ITEM 302 – Bituminous Tack Coat


(Prior to application of tack coat, the surface should be slightly sprayed with water
but not saturated).

Quantity: 0.2 to 0.7 L/sq.m

Tests: 1-Q, Quality Test for every 40 tons or 200 drums

ITEM 303 – Bituminous Seal Coat

A. Bituminous Materials

Quantity: 0.2 to 1.5 L/sq.m

(Asphalt cement: Penetration Grade 120-150)


a. Asphalt Cement= 0.9 – 1.8 L/sq.m
b. Cut-back asphalt = 1.5 – 3 L/sq.m

B. Cover Aggregates
Quantity: 5 to 14 Kg/sq.m

Tests: For every 75 cu.m /200 kg or fraction thereof:

1-G, Grading Test

Note: Use Road Roller: 5 to 6 Tons (Then after 10 days, open for traffic)
ITEM 304 – Bituminous Surface Treatment
Mass % of wear not exceeding 40 (AASHTO T96)

A. Aggregates
Quantity:
a. Using Cut-back asphalt or asphalt cement: = 13.6 to 38 kg/sq.m
b. Using Emulsified asphalt: = 13.6 to 19.04 kg/sq.m

Tests:
For every 75 cu.m/200 kg or fraction thereof:
1-G, Grading Test
1-P, Plasticity Test (PL, LL, PI)

For every 15000 cu.m or fraction thereof:


1-Q, Quality Test for: Grading, Plasticity, Abrasion, stripping & Bulk Specific Gravity
1- F, Fractured Face

B. Bituminous Materials
Quantity:
a. Using Cut-Back Asphalt or Asphalt Cement: = 1.58 to 2.04 L/sq.m
b. Using Emulsified Asphalt: = 1.58 to 2.04 L/sq.m

Tests: Same as for Item 301

ITEM 305- Bituminous Penetration Macadam Pavement

A. Aggregates
Quantity:
1. Using Asphalt Cement or Rapid Curing
Coarse(Crushed) --------------------------- 90kg/sq.m

Cover (crushed or screened) ---------------- 8kg/sq.m

ITEM 306 – Bituminous Road Mix Surface Course

Quantity:
1. Using Cut-back Asphalt: 4.5 to 7.0 mass % of total dry aggregate
2. Using Emulsified Asphalt: 6 to 10 mass % of total dry aggregate

Tests: Same as for Item 301

C. Mix

Tests: For every 75 cu.m/130tons or fraction thereof:

1-G, Grading Test


1-Ext, Extraction
1-Sty, Stability
1-C, Laboratory Compaction

D. Hydrated Lime (0.5 to 1 mass % shall be added to mixture)

For every 100 tons or fraction thereof:

E. Compacted Pavement
For each full day’s operation:

Tests: D & T (Density & Thickness Test) = at least 1 but not more than 3 samples
shall be taken

C. Equipment:

a. Self-profelled Steel-wheel tandem or 3-wheel rollers weighing not less than 8 Tons
b. Pneumatic Tire Rollers = 200 to 350 lbs/sq.in ( 1.4mpa to 2.4 mpa)
ITEM 307- Bituminous Plant-Mix Surface Course –GENERAL

A. Aggregates
Tests:
For every 75cu.m/200 tons or fraction thereof:
1-G & P, Grading and Plasticity Tests

For every 1500 cu.m or fraction thereof:


1-Q, Quality Tests for Grading, Plasticity, Abrasion, Stripping & Bulk Specific Gravity)
1-F, Fractured Face

B. Bituminous Materials
Quantity: 5 to 8 mass% of total dry aggregate
Tests: 1-Q, Quality Test for each 40tons or fraction thereof

C. Mix
Tests: For every 75 cu.m/130 tons or fraction thereof:
1-G, Grading Test
1-Ext., Extraction
1-Sty., Stability
1-C, Laboratory Compaction
D. Hydrated Lime
Tests: For every 100 Tons of fraction thereof:
1-G & P, Grading & Plasticity Tests(LL, PL, PI)

E. Mineral Filler
Tests: For every 75cu.m or fraction thereof:
1-G & P, Grading & Plasticity Tests(LL, PL, PI)

F. Compacted Pavement
Tests: For each Full day’s operation:

D & T (Density & Thickness Determination Tests): at least 1 but not more

than 3 samples shall be taken. (150mm x 150 mm ᵩ core samples at every
100m per lane.

Job Mix Formula:


Tolerances:
a. Passing #4 sieve and larger sieve: ± 7%
b. Passing #8 sieve to #100: ± 4%
c. Passing #200 sieve : ± 2%
d. Bituminous Materials: ± 0.4%
e. Temperature of mixture: ±10%
Minimum dry compressive strength: 1.4 mpa(200psi)

Temperature: Not greater than 1590 C

Aggregates Heated: ± 170 C

Temperature of Mixture: not less than 1070 C as measured from dump truck

When TAR is used: Between 660 C to 1070 C

Minimum required density: 97%
