LAC REFLECTION JOURNAL

Date: November 25, 2022

Name: Abdul Fadz S. Jaafar Position: Teacher I

Topic: Review on Pedagogy and Content Knowledge per Learning Area (PCK)
Insights or Reflections (Insights or realizations gained from the facilitator, mentor, or coach regarding new
concepts learned and known concepts that were more understood)

Content Knowledge refers to the body of knowledge and information that teachers teach and that
students are expected to learn in a given subject or content area, such as English language arts, mathematics,
science, or social studies. While Pedagogyis a SYSTEMATIC STUDY about SCIENCE OF TEACHING AND
LEARNING. It is about how knowledge be organized EFFECTIVELY and used in order to implement
curriculum.(Dr. Hussin, 2013).

Lesson’s Learned:

I have learned that PCK represents the blending of content and pedagogy into an understanding of how
particular aspects of subject matter are organized, adopted, and represented for instruction. At the heart of
effective teaching is the teacher’s pedagogical content knowledge. The teacher must therefore be equipped with
the following to be able to keep on the right track for the delivery of his/her instruction:
*Have a copy of the curriculum guide of the Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELCs) considering the
situation of our education mode of learning delivery.
*Study and Plan on what to teach and how to deliver the lesson.
*Assess effectively and accurately.
*Monitor the student’s learning performance and provide feedbacks.
*Communicate with the learners and their parents to improve performance.
*Motivate learners to do their best for their future.

REFLECTION JOURNAL ON MID-YEAR IN-SERVICE TRAINING 2023

Date: February 6-10, 2023

Name: Nelyn Grace V. Lebita Position: Teacher II

Topic: Introduction to Basic and Action Research

Insights or Reflections (Insights or realizations gained from the facilitator, mentor, or coach regarding
new concepts learned and known concepts that were more understood)
Assessment is the process of getting information about what and how the students learn, and using
this information to guide instruction and boost learning as well as to gives feedback to teachers and
students that help them both adjust their teaching and learning strategies to achieve learning goals

Lesson’s Learned:

I have learned that Assessment helps us to plan (what do I want my students to learn?); to do (How
do I help them learn effectively?); to check (Have we achieved goals and outcomes?), and to act (How
do I use the information I gathered? What adjustments and refinements should I do?). This is the
assessment cycle that helps continuously improve the teaching-learning process; this is the
assessment cycle that makes assessment useful for its intended purposes: the assessment FOR
learning, the assessment AS learning, and the assessment OF learning.
Importance of the 3 Assessments:
1. Assessment FOR learning is an ongoing process that gauges and monitors student learning in
order to inform instruction, as well as help students monitor and manage their own learning.
2. Assessment AS learning is also an ongoing process that helps the students self-reflect on
their learning, know their weaknesses and strengths, adjust their learning strategies, correct
past errors, plan next best steps, and become independent, self-directed, metacognitive, and
successful learners.
3. Assessment OF learning measures the students’ competency; certifies learning; and provides
evidence if program goals and objectives have been met and outcomes have been achieved.
Summative assessments serve the purpose of assessment OF learning.

Topic: Mental Health and Sexual Reproductive Care in Education

Insights or Reflections (Insights or realizations gained from the facilitator, mentor, or coach regarding
new concepts learned and known concepts that were more understood)

Reproductive health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not
merely the absence of disease, infirmity, in all matters relating to the reproductive system and to its
functional processes.

Lesson’s Learned:

I have learned that sexuality education leads to learners delaying the age of sexual initiation,
increasing the use of condoms and other contraceptives when they are sexually active. Increasing their
knowledge about the bodies and relationships, decreasing their risk-taking, and decreasing the
frequency of unprotected sex. In the Islamic Perspective, sex education is also taught but it strictly
prohibited the practice of pre-marital sex especially for couples or individuals who are not yet tied or
married.
In addition, the issue mentioned above can lead to mental health problems thus, it alters
individual emotion, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also
helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make healthy choices. Mental health is
important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood.
In connection, findings revealed that individuals with psychological problems (such as
substance abuse) are more likely to engage in risky sexual behaviors which can increase their chances
of having negative outcomes such as early pregnancies, or HIV. Above all, mental and physical health
are equally important components of overall health.

Teachers must integrate these ideas in their lesson plans to prevent learning gaps and
retentions in students’ performances. Nowadays, many students from different walks of life are prone to
psychological problems where depression increases the risk for many types of physical health
problems.

The crafting of SIP for years 2023 to 2028 should harmonized with the DEDP Framework of DepEd
Zamboanga City using the input process output model. The inputs are the priorities and goals of SGD 2030,
Ambisyon Natin 2040, MATATAG Agenda of DepEd, RAPID, and SDO. In addition, the process includes the 5e
programs of Zampen and SDO strategies to produce Batang Makabansa, and Bansang Makabata.

DZC commits to:

HACE COMPLETO y cerca el educacion through expanded, enhanced, and modernized access to education;
HACE INCLUSIVO y patas el educacion through expanded, advanced, and reinvented Inclusive Education
Program;
HACE ELEVA el calidad y eficiencia through enhanced, modernized, and effective instructional delivery to raise
the bar of excellence in education;
HACE LEVANTA y esteblece el bienestar through enhanced, effective, and efficient implementation of DRRM,
Health, Youth Development, and other support programs;
HACE PROGRESIVO el governancia y servicio through a rationalized, digitized, and effective governance
system.

Lesson’s Learned:

I have learned that the data in the Basic Education Information System for the last school years (can be 3
years ago or 4 years ago) are badly crucial to be able to plan, monitor, assess, and evaluate the school
performance, achievement, and status which would help the school leader together with its planning team
provide an idea and come-up with a very comprehensive yet smart School Improvement Plan.

Topic: Cone of Learning and Metacognition A Review to Improve Learning Results

Insights or reflection: (Insights or realizations gained from the facilitator, mentor, or coach regarding new
concepts learned and known concepts that were more understood)

Metacognition also involves knowing yourself as a learner; that is, knowing your strengths and weaknesses
as a learner. It involves knowing when you know, knowing when you don’t know, and knowing what to do
when you don’t know. In other words, it involves self-monitoring and correcting your own learning
processes.
Lesson’s learned:

The lesson thought me how the concept could be applied to the learners learning. For
example, you engage in metacognition if you notice that you are having more trouble learning concept
A than concept B, or if you realize that your approach to solving a problem is not working, and you
decide to try a different approach.
The lesson is a great help, specifically, when dealing a diverse learners where it can determine
which type of strength your students belong. For example, if the students can explain what his or her
strengths are in academic writing, or exam taking, or other types of academic tasks, then he/she are
metacognitively aware. Metacognitive processes can be applied to learning and thinking in all
disciplines and contexts. It is an essential skill for life-long learning, and therefore, metacognitive skills
need to be taught and discussed with students.
The application and awareness of these ideas are considered helpful to the teachers as a tool to track
learners' learning in different subject fields.

My Personal Teaching Philosophy

I personally believe that learning should always be learner-centered. This is why I adhere to the Humanistic
Philosophy of Education. The Humanistic Philosophy of Education Theory was developed by Abraham Maslow, Carl
Rogers, and James F.T. Bugental in the early 1900s.
Humanistic psychology focuses on the idea that learners bring out the best of themselves, and the
humans are driven by their feelings more than rewards and punishments. This belief that humans are
driven by feelings causes educators who understand humanistic psychology to focus on the underlying
human emotional issues when they see bad behavior.
The humanistic learning theory developed further and harnessed the idea that if students are
upset, sad or distress, they’re less likely to be able to focus on learning. This encourages teachers to create
a classroom environment that help students feel comfortable and safe so they can focus on their learning.
Also, I believe that learning should be fun and enjoyable. My goal as a teacher, is to motivate my
learners, to stimulate their interests, to motivate the learners and make sure they would love learning and
would be looking forward for more everyday.
Some principles that involve in Humanistic Philosophy:
1. Student’s Choice- teachers should value what the learners want and how they want things done,
and let them enjoy learning.
2. Importance of self-evaluation- teachers should encourage students to perform self-evaluation so
they know to how to feel their progress.
3. Cognitive and Effective learning- develop activities that cultivates learners intellectual and feelings.
