PANEL CHARGING

Note: Don’t Energize the panel without checking for

short circuit, loose connections, voltage level, polarity
of signal and phase sequence etc.
 Charge feeders one by one and measure voltage
level at every test socket and input output of the
device
 Single phase AC feeder
 DC feeder
 Three phase AC feeder
 UPS feeder

11
CONTD..

 Prior to charging of swing frame and Max rack

isolate all the modules other than power supply
modules, these modules to be inserted back once it’s
ensured that the voltage level at test sockets is with
acceptable limits
 It’s a good practice to tabulate all the values for
future records

12
PRE-COMMISSIONING

 Establish PC/Laptop communication with DPU’s

 Ensure Max I/O cards healthiness with a continuously
LED glowing green at the bottom of the card named
Active.
 If any card is found blinking check the card address with
the software
 Check software setting as per test report in micro-
terminal
 Enter the address in test report and press RET to check
the values
 For any changing any of the value
 Use <-> cursor to move the pointer to the setting value
(cursor will blink) enter the new value Press SHIFT -
>WRITE->RET

PRE-COMMISSIONING

 Simulation of fault Indications

 To be done by simulation / actual operation
 Confirms the correctness, tightness of internal wiring /
External field wiring (ANNUNCIATION FACIA / UCD)
 Correctness of DTAG assigned to LED in indications page in
HMI
 Simulation of GRP /GOVERNOR POTENTIAL FREE CONTACTS
(PT FUSE FAIL, ULR (86) SET, ULR RESET, GCB ON / OFF &
Speed > 90%)
 Make through the permissive for field breaker closing
 In case of Retrofitting / R&M jobs it is good practice to
check the FB on command by connecting a lamp in place of
FB closing coil. This will ensure no continuous commands is
persisting at Closing coil, which is not desired.

15
CONTD..

 Switch S20 in Test Position

 Ensure Excitation ON permit is Green on the
Excitation Command Block
 Make Excitation ON and Check for Firing pulse at
Digital firing module (UN0663), pulse Final stage
module and record the magnitude and pulse width
 Ensure double firing pulses at every socket.
 Expected width of pulse 180-200µSec.

with 50 Hz test supply.
 Incase of Pulse missing or non conduction of thyristor,
the frequency will be read <300 Hz.

PSS EXPLAINED…

 A synchronous generator (or motor) working with grid is

susceptible to oscillation
 The magnetic field of rotor and stator form angle called
load angle.
 In steady state condition it is constant and has a value
ensuring balance between mechanical driving torque and
electrical o/p torque. Enables synchronous operation or
provides synchronising torque
 If any disturbance displaces load angle the the electrical
torque changes and brings the load angle for equilibrium
position of machine.

58
PSS CONTD …

 Due to inertia of the machine this can take place

aperiodically in the form of more or less well damped
oscillations
 To damp the oscillations damping torque is required.
 The damping torque has to be proportional to difference
between actual and synchronous speed i.e., slip.
 The damper windings provide this torque.
 PSS provides supplementary signal

by double click on the LED indication, it’ll be routed to a
trouble-shooting guidelines page
 If any module fails fail LED(RED in color) glows
 Change the module from spares and ensure all jumper setting
as same as old module or test report
 If CPU module Change the IC at location A735,A736,A738 and
A739 from old module to new module
 Check the software parameters as per test report
 While changing UNC4660 module the old resistance values
need to be retained in new modules

NOTE:- The IC at location A735 and A736 are specific for a project
and module location (the location will be marked on the IC)
