SCSP’s Members Take a Trip To

See The Brooklyn Cyclones

BY: PAMELA STERN

On July 18th Spring Creek Senior Partners’ (SCSP) members

took a trip to see the Brooklyn Cyclones play against the
Wilmington Blue Rocks.
Seven attendees and SCSP’s NORC Supervisor, Robin
Devonish, took a Jewish Community Council of Greater Coney
Island (JCCOGCI) bus service to the MCU Park to relax and enjoy
America’s favorite pastime—Baseball!
Everyone met at SCSP’s office at 11 am and returned back from
the Cyclones’ game at 4pm. SCSP supplied the participants with
a boxed lunch and additional water so that they could stay
hydrated.
“The seniors were excited. They came prepared with personal
snacks, hats, and umbrellas to shield them from the sun. Mr.
Torres, a senior partner who knows everything about baseball,
was very helpful in teaching me how to understand and follow the
game,” said Devonish.

Celebrating National Night Out Against Crime

BY AMANDA MOSES

Hundreds of people throughout

New York City joined police officers
for the 40th Annual National Night
Out Against Crime on August 1st.
At more than 70 locations city-
wide, members of the NYPD and
city officials joined together to pro-
mote an evening of community-
building where officers interacted
with locals to help strengthen their
bonds. This event was developed to
curb violence by allowing residents
to meet the men and women in blue
who protect them and work toget-
her to create a safer neighborhood.
Some police precincts hosted
barbeques, bouncy castles, music,
food, and other activities either
outside of their police stations or in
local parks. These members of law
enforcement were all smiles as they
tossed footballs back and forth with
teens, while others watched child-
ren receive balloon shaped swords
and flowers crafted by balloon
artisans.
At the 75th Precinct, the depart-
ment that covers the Spring Creek
Towers area, among others, hosted
their Night Out Against Crime at
the Robert Venable Park from 1pm
to 7pm. At this event members of
the community were able to enjoy
delicious burgers, hot dogs, cotton
candy and more. There was some-
thing for everyone, from little child-
ren jumping inside of a bouncy
castle, while others were able to
partake in basketball matches. In
addition to the fun activities, there
were plenty of raffled giveaways.

toward callers, and in turn are given a spotlight on the state of mental
health in America.
The Listener had its North American premiere at the Tribeca
Festival’s venue, the OKX Theater at BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts
Center, on June 11. Buscemi along with writer Alessandro Camon,
cast members Blu Del Barrio, Ricky Valez and Bobby Sotto attended
the red-carpet event. Celebrity guests, like Richard Gere, also lent their
support and gushed over the film.
“It was a beautiful script, so well written. It’s all about mental health
and people who are in distress and the person, Tessa Thompson, who
is there to listen and help them,” Buscemi told reporters on the red
carpet.
“Tessa Thompson plays a home healthcare worker in what’s called
a warm line, it’s not a crisis line, but you can call if you are going
through something. She works at night the character because that’s
when most people feel at their lowest, they feel lonely, or they feel
desperate and there is somebody out there who can listen and maybe
give them some encouragement,” Buscemi said.
The protagonist, Beth tries to deescalate stressful situations where
callers are threatening to end their own lives. Some of the celebrity
voices viewers will hear include Rebecca Hall, Jamie Hector, and Alia
Shawkat. Although you really only see Thompson in her home at night

SCSP Holds Health Fair

By: Pamela Stern

On July 19th, Spring Creek Senior Partners (SCSP) held a health

fair from 10 am to 12 noon in their office for their members. Thirteen
SCSP members enjoyed seeing the different health organizations all in
one place where they could gather information and ask any questions
on many different aspects of health.
SCSP provided breakfast for all attendees. The light breakfast
allowed everyone to have some coffee, juice, bagels, and pastries.
The health partners for this event were: New York City Health &
Hospital Corporation, One Brooklyn Health, MetroPlus Health, NHS
Brooklyn, and HealthCare Choices NY Inc.
The health care organizations provided brochures, free dental
cleaning kits, coupons for low-cost dental services, as well as vital
signs screenings, they also facilitated Naloxone training, and provided
free NARCAN kits after completion of the training.
Attendees were able to have their blood pressure, oxygen levels,
pulse, and temperature all checked for free.
Attendees were able to receive some complementary items from the
health care partners such as; reusable bags, pens, stickers, and
buttons with the health care partners’ logos on them.
SCSP Director, Jahiah Wilson said, “Being healthy and fit isn’t a fad
or a trend it’s a lifestyle.”
SCSP will be hosting another health fair in October 2023.
