RE: EAST AFRICA COMMUNITY ESSAY WRITING COMPETITION FOR


SECONDARY SCHOOLS 2023

2. The District Director’s office has received a letter from with Ref. No.
EA.76/249/01/136 dated 27th July 2023 introducing the above heading.
3. According to such a letter the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology
(MOEST) in collaboration with PO-RALG are running an EAC Essay Writing
Competition for Secondary Schools.
The competition is intended to broaden knowledge of the students on EAC activities.
This Competition is open to Form I up to Form VI students. The students will be
required to research and write an essay of 1000-1500 words.
4. The Topic for 2023 Essay Writing Competition is;

English: Discuss how Sport and Games can be used to promote development and
integration in EAC.

Kiswahili: Jadili namna gani ambavyo michezo inaweza kutumika kukuza maendeleo na
ushirikiano katika Jumuiya ya Afrika Mashariki.

Fench: Discuter de la maniere don’tles sport es les jeux peuvent etre utilizes pour
promouvir le development et l’intergration dans l’EAC.

5. The Head of Schools will then be expected to constitute a marking panel which
will choose the best essays of the school. The panel should go through the essays
(please do not mark the essay) and choose the best three essays to be submitted to
Permanent Secretary Ministry of Education, Science and Technology,
Government City, Mtumba Area, Afya Street, P.O. Box 10, 40479 DODOMA by
15 September, 2023.

6. The following are the guidelines for essay competition;
 The essay should be between 1000 and 1500 words;
 The Essay can be written in English, French or Kiswahili;
 The Essay should be written in own handwriting;
 Students information such as name, sex, Prem No, class, school address,
region, country and title of the essay should be written on the cover page;
 The essay should be written on white A4 lined/ruled papers (similar to the
draft pads);
 Written on one side of the paper;
 Students should draw double margin in each paper;
 The Head of Schools have to certify that the essay is student’s own work
(signature and stamp) and mobile Number;
 Students should discuss a minimum of the points and;
 Students should show the references material they used in writing the
essay;
7. For this letter, make sure your school participate in this essay wiring
competition.
