Dear Sir/Madam,
2021 FRANCOPHONIE CELEBRATIONS & FRENCH COMPETITION
Ghana is one of the few Anglophone countries in West Africa to have joined the
International Organisation of La Francophonie.
Every year, the country joins the other 87 member States and governments to celebrate
the day the Organisation was founded. In Ghana, French language quizzes form part of the
celebrations among many other activities and students from all parts of the country
compete for prizes in order to put their schools on the Francophonie map.
This year again, H.E. Louise MUSHIKIWABO, Secretary General of La Francophonie is
dedicating the 2021 Francophonie celebrations to women in the world because they and
their children are the ones who are most often badly affected in times of crises such as
Covid-19 pandemic. In the same vein, the Hon. Ministe r of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei
Adutwum, is dedicating this year’s competition exclusively to the female students who
study French in our educational institutions.
⚠ TO STRICTLY OBSERVE COVID-19 PROTOCOLS, ALL COMPETITIONS WILL BE DONE
THROUGH AUDIOVISUAL RECORDINGS & VIRTUAL ENCOUNTERS ON THE ‘SPEAK, READ &
WRITE’ FORMAT
Speak: Candidates will be quizzed on their fluency in French by giving oral answers
Read: Candidates will be quizzed on their ability to read a passage in French
Write: Candidates will be quizzed on their ability to give on-the-spot written answers

SHS, Colleges of Education and University students are concerned. The details for each
category are as follows:
SHS STUDENTS: 100% FEMALE
Each school will present three students to compete with their female colleagues from other
Senior High Schools. The three (3) representatives will send a video recording conversation
in French of about (five) 5 minutes on the theme: “L’ importance de la langue française
pour le Ghana”. Creativity and originality in the presentation will qualify your school for
the next and final stage. The final round will be a virtual face-to-face encounter on speak,
read and write basis.
NB: Date, Zoom link and other participation modalities will be communicated later to
successful five (5) schools for the final round.
Prizes in this category will be won for the school French Lab:
* 1st: A Projector * 2nd: A Combo Bluetooth Speaker * 3rd: A Turbonet
COLLEGES OF EDUCATION: 100% FEMALE
All female students should apply, compete and win prizes for themselves. Candidates
should send a video recording of about five (5) minutes in which each will give three main
(3) reasons why they have decided to train as a French teacher. Creativity and originality
in the presentation will qualify candidates to the next and final stage. The final round will
be a virtual face-to-face encounter on speak, read and write basis.
NB: Date, Zoom link and other participation modalities will be communicated later to
successful five (5) candidates for the final round.
Prizes to be won by contestants:
* 1st: A Laptop computer * 2nd: A Tablet * 3rd: A Smartphone
UNIVERSITIES: 100% FEMALE
In September 2006, the Government of Ghana decided to join the International
Organization of La Francophonie. As a candidate in this competition, you are to send a 5-
minute video recording in French in which you will propose 5 major steps to be taken by
La Francophonie to promote the teaching and learning of French in Ghana. Creativity and
originality in your proposals will qualify you to the next and final stage. The final round
will be a virtual face-to-face encounter during which you will compete with other
contestants on speak, read and write basis.
NB: Date, Zoom link and other participation modalities will be communicated later to
successful five (5) candidates for the final round.
Prizes to be won by contestants:
* 1st: A Laptop computer * 2nd: A Tablet * 3rd: A Smartphone
Additional Prizes for all winners: Dictionaries, Books, Audio-visual materials Pen drives,
etc.
Deadline for submission of video recordings by all contestants will be on or before 9th
July 2021 via the Telegram link below:
