Invitation to HIPPO 2023 – the 11th International English Language Olympiad
We cordially invite your esteemed school and your students to participate in the coming
HIPPO International English Olympiad 2023. The competition is approved and supported
by Kementerian Pendidikan Malaysia with the reference number KPM.600-8/2/7
Jld.28(94).

HIPPO English Olympiad is a well-known International English Language competition

established in Italy since 2013, suitable for primary and secondary schools globally, and
for both public and private (international) school students under the Regular and Special
categories respectively.

The HIPPO 2022, which was completed on 28-30 October 2022 in Rome, Italy, managed
to attract 67,500 participants from 55 countries, where 6,500 participants from
approximately 1,000 schools in Malaysia demonstrated their excellent English language
skills in the competition. Inspired by this, we wish to encourage more of our students to
participate in the one of the largest global English events.

HIPPO English Olympiad aligns to the Common European Framework of Reference for
Languages (CEFR). Internationally recognised and Ofqual regulated English language
qualifications are used throughout the Olympiad.

There are four competition rounds in HIPPO 2023: preliminary round, semi-final round,
qualifier and the world final round. The final round will be held in Rome, Italy, in October
2023.

For HIPPO 2023, the preliminary round will run from 12-16 April 2023. The participant can
choose the following mode to compete
1) Participate via “Online at Home” using ZOOM and HIPPO system. The date will be
15 or 16 April 2023, or
2) Host in School, similar to school examinations, using physical papers. We will
courier the papers to you, or
3) Host in School computer lab, using Online.

The registration fee is RM60 per student to participate. For successful registration, we will
be providing FREE HIPPO workshop to help the participants to prepare for the
competition. The students will also be invited to join the HIPPO Speaking Community, on
first come first served basis.
