Application procedure
Step 1 – Nomination Exchange students must be officially nominated by their
home university. Nominations are accepted via
nomination sheet which will be emailed separately at
start of nomination period.
Nomination deadlines
Fall semester or academic year: 1 April
Spring semester: 1 October
Step 2 – Online All incoming exchange students apply online.

Required documents instructions via e-mail in the beginning of the
application period. Information about the application

Step 3 – Housing application Students who wish to apply for housing via GU need
to tick the housing-box in the online application.
Instructions on how to apply for housing will be sent
out via e-mail after the online application deadline has
passed. In this e-mail each student will receive a
personal code to be used in the housing application.

Academic information
Full time studies, A normal workload (full time studies) for one semester
grading and course is 30 credits, for full academic year: 60 credits.

credits each. Courses are taken in a modular system
which means students generally take one course at a
time with a final exam at the end of each course. More

Language of instruction English (for courses open to exchange students)
Students coming to GU from other Nordic countries
are eligible for courses taught in Swedish as well.
Medical services Foreign students who are not entitled to public health
care in Sweden can receive support from the University's
provider of student health services. Read more:

from countries outside the European Union and students
with a residence permit for less than one year.
Study Support To the extent possible, international students with a
permanent and documented disability can be offered
study support to facilitate their studies at the University

Insurance All incoming exchange students are covered by the
Swedish State Insurance for Foreign Students in
