Application procedure
Step 1 – Nomination Exchange students must be officially nominated by their
home university. Nominations are accepted via
nomination sheet which will be emailed separately at
start of nomination period.

Nomination deadlines
Fall semester or academic year: 1 April
Spring semester: 1 October
Step 2 – Online All incoming exchange students apply online.

The following documents are required for all students


(digitally, no hard copies):
1. Official Transcript of Records (in English)
showing all completed semesters
2. Certificate of Registration showing
currently enrolled courses
3. Copy of passport
Please note that students applying for HDK-Valand Academy
of Arts and Design will receive separate application instructions
upon nomination and will need to submit portfolio work.

Please note that admission to HDK-Valand Academy of


Arts and Design programmes is highly competitive and
depends largely on portfolio work. Students who are
accepted are required to follow a set track for the
term/academic year. More information and contacts

General requirements Language: Students should meet a B2 proficiency level in
English, official test results are not required. Please note:
Courses might have other language requirements.

Incoming students on bachelor/BA-level/first cycle need to


have completed one full year of studies at home university
when starting their exchange at GU.
Incoming students on master-level need to have completed
one semester of studies at home university.

Step 3 – Housing application Students who wish to apply for housing via GU need
to tick the housing-box in the online application.
Instructions on how to apply for housing will be sent
out via e-mail after the online application deadline has
passed. In this e-mail each student will receive a
personal code to be used in the housing application.

Step 4 – Course application Students will need to indicate the courses they wish to
take in the online application. In addition to this,
students should upload a separate course application
sheet which they will receive via email along with the
application instructions by the latest 15 May for fall
semester/academic year and 15 November for spring
semester.

Please note that there is no possibility of changing


courses after the course application deadline has
passed. GU does not have an add/drop week. Students
therefore need to choose courses carefully before
submitting the course application sheet.
Step 5 – Applications are screened regularly as they are sent
Screening in. Course applications are sent for evaluation to the
procedure respective departments after the deadlines for
fall/spring.
Step 6 – Acceptance Letter Acceptance Letters are sent out regularly during the
application period, and by the latest one week after
the application deadline.

Acceptance Letters will only be sent as digital copies by


e-mail to the student and the International Coordinator.
No original hard copies will be sent since the digital copy
is enough for the visa application.

Academic information
Full time studies, A normal workload (full time studies) for one semester
grading and course is 30 credits, for full academic year: 60 credits.

credits each. Courses are taken in a modular system
which means students generally take one course at a
time with a final exam at the end of each course. More

Language of instruction English (for courses open to exchange students)
Students coming to GU from other Nordic countries
are eligible for courses taught in Swedish as well.

care in Sweden can receive support from the University's
