instrument and the optional printer.

1.2. CUVETTE HOLDER

The temperature of this part is maintained to 37°C. 5 cuvette positions are
available. Position 1 to 4 are pre-incubation channels and can be used to keep
samples at 37°C temperature. The channel marked with “” symbol is the
photometer channel where cuvette must be transferred after the pre-incubation
phase. The photometer uses 2 different filters (marked A and B) and a slider
can be used to select the correct one for the analysis. The filter required is
shown in the display during power on and depend on the smartcard inserted.

1.3. SMART CARD SLOT

The smartcard slot in the back of the instrument is

used to accept a smartcard supplied with every
analysis kit. This smartcard includes all the
information and parameters for the test. Main
information is: calibration curve, reagent Lot#,
expiry date and N° of test to be performed with the
kit. The smart card is specific for any test kit and
cannot be used with different kit box reagents.

A valid smartcard is needed to be able to turn on the instrument completely.

1.4. POWER ON SEQUENCE

A valid smartcard must be inserted in the instrument before turn it on. After power on the instrument
show the firmware information. The fan runs for some seconds.

4. FIRMWARE UPGRADE PROCEDURE

4.1. PRELIMINARY INFORMATION

The Turbi-Quick firmware can be upgraded easily. You need a standard null modem cable (cross-cable),
PC with a standard serial port and the upgrade firmware files.

If you don’t have a PC with a standard DB9 serial

port, you can use an USB/Serial adapter. In this
case please configure your adapter as COM1 or
COM2 serial port.

To connect the instrument please use only a cross

cable type to avoid damage to the instrument
and/or to the PC.

4.2. DB9 NULL MODEM CABLE

This is the pin-out of the null modem cable for the

upgrade. It is a standard cable. A gender changer
may be required.

4.3. FIRMWARE FILES

The firmware upgrade folder includes the following files:

-IMP20FEL.FUL (instrument firmware file, “20F” is the version number)

-README.TXT (a file with latest release notes)
-UPD_COM1.BAT (batch file for COM1 serial port connection)
-UPD_COM2.BAT (batch file for COM2 serial port connection)
-UPDATE.EXE (the upgrade software)

To avoid possible problems with the windows path names we suggest to copy the folder in the root
directory of your disk or just in a temporary folder (example “c:\”, “d:\temp”). Do not leave the folder in
the “Desktop”.
