The 7 C’s of Effective Communication

When sender delivers his message in an appropriate way to receiver and if he can understand it
easily then it is said to be effective communication. Seven principles of communication are
present by which it can be effective, and these principles are known as seven C’s of effective
communication.

Completeness:
A statement is said to be complete if statement contain all necessary information which helps
readers and listeners to get the main point you have explained.

For Example:
Hello everyone,
I want to remind all of you about seminar that it is going to held tomorrow in Jinnah auditorium
Hall, at 9.00 am on Islamic Finance and Chancellor Choudhary Sarwar will be the chief guest.

Conciseness:
It means to short something. It means you must use minimum words to deliver your message
without losing the actual meaning of the sentence. If your talk is lengthy your audience get
bored and they will lose their attention.

For Example:
Wordy: Respectfully, it is submitted that I was ill. Doctor has advised me to take rest for two
days so I will not come to University for 2 days.

Concise: I was ill, so that I am unable to come to university for two days.

Consideration:
Put yourself in place of others and think from other’s angle. I am thinking about myself only and
give no importance to other feelings and emotions. First try to understand others then maybe
you can become a good and effective communicator.

For Example:
A student has applied for financial assistance. Financial managers are giving his response:

Negative way: I will not give you financial assistance because you are late.
Positive way: I am sorry, I am unable to give you financial assistance because you applied for
scholarship late and other needy students have been selected already.
Concreteness:
In this you must talk about to the point, don’t make your discussion too vague, avoid fuzzy
discussion and discuss only specific facts. It can create a good image.

For Example:
Vague:
Pakistan has three international cricket biggest victories.

Concrete:
In 1992, Pakistan won the ODI World Cup, in 2009 Pakistan won the T20 world and in 2017
Pakistan won the Champions trophy

Clarity:
You must have clear concept in your mind about a specific goal. Expression and thoughts of
sender must be clear because if you are clear from every aspect you can better explain and
convey your message to your audience.

For Example:
Unfamiliar:
There have been eighteen amendments in constitution of Pakistan 1973.

Familiar:
changes made in the law of Pakistan 1973 are eighteen.

Courtesy:
Courtesy means being humble, polite and very helpful to others. Because if you communicate
politely it will motivate your audience to make a participative communication and it will lessen
the hesitation of audience, then your communication will be more effective.

For Example:
Disrespectfully:
You are such a silly and idle student; you are not allowed to attend the lecture because you are
wasting the time of others.

Politely:
You should pay attention to your studies so that you can get success.
Correctness:
When you are communicating use exact and correct words, avoid grammatical errors and most
important thing in correctness in pronunciation, if pronunciation of words is not accurate your
audience will not be able to understand what you are talking about.

For example:
Right Sentence:
I accept your invitation.

Wrong Sentence:
I except your invitation.
It can be understood by above words if not use exactly then these words will change the
meaning of the sentence.
