1. Explain the reasons for a man-made irrigation system in dry zone areas of Sri Lanka.
(25 marks)

2. Write short notes on the following methods in the context of ancient irrigation
patterns in in Sri Lanka.
- Water storages (15 marks)
- River diversions (10 marks)

3. Explain the operation of the village tank cascade systems and discuss how they
contribute to reusing the water in optimum manner. (25 marks)

4. Explain the contributing factors for the development of maritime transport in ancient
Sri Lanka. (25 marks)
