Light water reactors of the present gen eratio n are desig ned for pres s u re a n d tem perature levels
which permit a n u mber of tracers to m eet these criteria . At h i g h e r press u re levels this may be

10 Deviations of initial steam pressure from the specified value, resulting from a deviation of the steam flow capacity
of variable pressure turbines from the specified value within the limits stipulated in the contract, shall be
considered in the correction.
1 1 A correction for differing initial steam flow is necessary only if correction and guarantee comparison are made to
a guarantee point (see 7 . 8 . 3 ) , not to a locus curve (see 7 . 8 . 2 ) .
12 Deviations of final feed-water temperature from the specified value, resulting from a deviation of the top heater
terminal difference or steam ex traction pipe pressure drop from the specified value shall be considered in the
correction.
1 3 Only if this equipment does not form part of the scope of the contract.
1 4 The guarantee values are specified normally for valve points (see 4. 6 . 1 ) and tests are conducted at valve points
also with due consideration for the limits of deviations from guarantee conditions specified in Table 1 . A correction
is not then necessary.
If a throttle point is guaranteed (e.g. full arc admission turbine with throttle regulation at part load) the test shall
be made with the throttling pressure drop specified in the guarantee conditions, or a correction has to be made.

NOTE 2 I n the formulae an uncertainty for the temperature influence on watt meters or watthour meters is
introduced. The temperature factor is indicated by the manufacturer of the watt meters/watthour meters.
If the influence of the temperature on the wattmeter reading is exactly known as a function of the temperature and
this has been applied as a correction in the evaluation of the measured power, this influence on the measurement
uncertainty can be eliminated in the formula for measurement uncertainty.

For the d e p e n d e nce of the m easuring u n certa i n ty of instrument transformers, see 8 . 3 . 1 . For the

(i nformative)
In order to d eterm i n e turb i n e heat rate , it is necess ary to a ccu rately measure the p r i m a ry a n d
seco n d a ry fl ows so that th e heat flow t o t h e cycle c a n b e defi n ed . These flows a re normally
meas u red by d i rect m e a n s .
As the leakage flow between t h e H P a n d the I P turb i n e cannot be d i rectly measured , other
methods, based on a thermody n a m i c a p proach , need to be c o n s i d ered . T h e "Booth-Kautz m a n n
altern ative test" , a l s o called "temperature variati o n method" is a poss i b l e s o l u t i o n .
As its n a m e reve a l s (tem perature variation met h od ) the concept is based o n vary i n g the l ive
and reh eat ste a m te m peratu res and o bserv i n g the c h a nges in the IP turbine exhaust
te m pe ratu re (cross-over) . I f a l a byrinth flow does not exist, the IP exhaust tem perature w i l l
fo l l ow t h e h o t reheat tem peratu re without b e i n g affected b y the l ive steam tem perature. If,
h owever, a s i g n ificant l a byri nth fl ow exists , the IP exhaust temperature w i l l fo l l ow the variations
i n the l ive ste a m tem peratu re although t h e reheat tem peratu re is kept consta nt. The
d e p e n d e ncy of the IP exhaust temperature o n the l ive steam te m perature i n d icates the
m a g n it u d e of the l a byrinth flow.
The bowl effi ciency of the I P turb i n e is calculated accord i n g to F i g u re E . 1 and equations ( E . 1 )
to ( E . 4 ) .
